firstly im looking for a new horse.

ive been schooling on the flat/hacking a very nice 17h for its owner who wants to showjump with it, after 3+years of being tanked of with before and after fences was coming to end of tether and considering selling. owner and i discussed a bargain price should they decide to sell if the horse doesnt pull its socks up.

now i dont jump anymore but feeling brave schooled horse for an hour over a raised pole with horse going really well and was told it was a different horse at the next comp, responsive and controllable.

do i continue to school horse which means the owner might keep it, or not, which means i might get it at a bargain price?

Don't school it !!

i think that if you really like it then dont school it with regards to jumping and then make them an offer - otherwise you'll be paying for your own hard work if they do sell it on anyway!

Are you being paid to ride this horse? If so then yes continue showjumping as this is what the owner wants I'm guessing? I personally would continue to ensure the horses progress but then I rarely get greatly attached to other peoples horses.

no im not getting paid, and my OH is telling me not to school it, as everytime i seem to put work into someone elses horse it ends up getting sold and i ve never been given anything for my work.

im actually not attatched to the horse, its just the sort im looking for and the stuff ive been travelling to see has been pants quite honestly!

Make her an offer today for it - if she accepts buy it.

If she doesn't, either stop riding it or charge her to school it on - which would be around £35 a session if not more.

really? that much, ive been schooling both of her horses for a couple of months, im such a sucker

but my horse was lame so i had nothing to ride.
we got as far as discussing a price, then after the last comp when horse jumped well they decided to give it another chance

thanks everyone, i was feeling a bit of a mean cow about it.

im not going to school it, and if the owner decides after all to get rid after getting tanked off with in the arena (which will happen), i'll buy it if i havent found anything else by then

(which the way things are going may be the case...the last one i looked at was at WELL over a hand smaller than advertised)
