Hello All,

Has anyone done the BE up there? Was wanting to know what the novice XC was like but cant see any pictures on EWW

Thanks

Think you're getting a bit mixed up - do you mean Moray Riding Club??

If so, they run some of their competitions at Burgie

Or you possibly mean Wee Burgie, which is a BE in Moray??

oops ye! thats what i meant! Silly blonde moment

Burgie has a reputation as a beefy course. It's very hilly and the jumps are significant. Have you done a pn there?

They like to make sure it is a true test! I was going to say Aswanley normally has nice first courses but I have just realised it is a month earlier than it used to be. But it is a lovely event.

BE says 'an interesting up to height novice'
I've not ridden the novice track but imo it wouldn't be suitable for a first run. As said above it's pretty beefy, big fences and some fairly technical bits too. Lots of eliminations when I was there last year, and not a single person made it round inside the time. Really annoying as it's the end of the scottish season! If you were willing to go south of the border I think there are some nice novices in yorkshire at the end of the season...

I'm thinking of stepping up to Novice at Aswanley and taking a 5 year old round the 100 class.
Never been before....... Is it a tough one?

Advise welcome

I think its fine. I did my very first novice at Burgie (at the international rather than "Wee"!) a few years ago and went clear. Last year @ Wee Burgie it was rather wet going hence why nobody got within the time (we were the fastest of the N section with 10 penalties!).

Its a bit of a test but not as bad as a lot of others IMO. Its just that its hilly so it takes the energy out of some horses and youngsters especially. IMO Aswanley is a harder course (loads of big ditches at the beginning etc.).

There are pics from last year on EWW:-

I did Aswanley as my first novice last year and wee burgie as my second. I would definately say that I found Burgie to be easier. A lot of people seem to suggest Aswanley as a first novice but I wouldn't: even though it isn't the biggest, it has a LOT of spooky ditches and is quite technical - the first water in particular being tricky. Burgie on the other hand is much more straight forward and is more of a kick on bold course. It does tend to have some big solid fences on it and a fairly skinny brush corner though, however I find all the courses seem to ride well at Burgie!
