There's much curiosity on the board at the moment about the bad things - how often do you fall off; scariest incident out hacking etc. Am I alone in not reading them?

I suffered a confidence crisis several years ago that saw me frightened to ride my horse without my OH being there in case of problem and terrified to hack. I'm now fine and have my confidence back (my OH is very relieved as he has much more time than previously!). I even took my boy out hunting (not sure I'll repeat that one though!). However, I don't think even at this stage that hearing tales of terror and woe will do me any good. Those suffering from a lack of confidence might do well to avoid them too!

So I'm going to carry on in my own happy little world - had a lovely hack this morning, just after 6am, on my wonderful 15 going on 3yo boy who likes to jump at things but if i stay calm and relaxed, recovers well. We were accompanied by my OH on a horse he recently backed on her first grown up hack. No incidents. Happy day. :)

I must admit, I tend to avoid the "Worst Accident" and "Number of breaks" or "Incidents while hacking" threads as I would be too petrified to ever ride again ;)

I'm not exactly an unconfident rider, but have had my fair share of confidence knocks, so like to hear the positive stories and read the improvement threads mainly!!

Maybe one day I’ll build the courage to join everyone else in reading these other threads though!! Lol! :p

You're not alone!
I avoid the worst fall, worst injury etc type threads for fear of putting myself off!
I think that there is a danger when reading on the forum of finding too many negative stories, im sure there are plenty of years of good riding that accompanies them but its always the bad that stick in my mind!

Yep, I don't look at those threads, what's the point in dwelling on all the bad things that can happen, but hopefully won't?

I am also on the ignoring side. I am a real 'what if' person so I find they send my mind into overdrive and make me panic unnecessarily. I don't need any new ideas for what if this happens...I would never get out the gate!

I don't avoid them per se but those I have read have made me realise that I have had (touch wood) a remarkably lucky time with my horses

Don't think reading these posts would put me off riding as I know that it is a high risk activity and you can't predict what will happen the next time you go to the yard.

Just hope my relatively calm world stays that way :)

The older I get...the more 'what if' I become....

...so now, I prefix the 'what if' with 'so'....

...hence.....'so what if - I fall off' etc......makes a difference to me anyhow.:)

On a happier note everybody I'm a big panicker and I've taken my lovely ex racer who I'm currently reschooling on our 3rd ever hack and we have both lived to tell the tale. I was scared to death and he was a total superstar! X x x
