More 5* entries - Pau and Maryland

That is sad such low entres for Maryland it is a lovely event. We had a lovely visit there last year and there was a nice handful of Brits there to cheer on.
Pau is on my list to visit soon but sadly not this year.

We are heading to Pau this year. Decent entries.

Tbh USA Kentucky entries are declining so no surprise it's a struggle at Maryland. $350k prize money though and $17k to 8th..... which wouldn't cover your flights. I suspect it would cost you £40k so you need to win really to have serious profit and be worth it. Plus it's a decent terrain 5* so need some blood. Boyd is bringing 2 to Pau which says a lot. Bruno doesn't have much blood and neither does Nutcracker.

I am flabbergasted how Quindiva just dried up at that drop. She was flying! Not sure if Alex was just shocked but he didn’t seem to apply much pressure. So bizarre and completely gutting for him!

I'm so bummed for Will and Alex! I was cheering so hard for both pairs - I must have jinxed them! I had tears in my eyes watching Will's horse wait for him after the fall and how Will gave him those lovingly concerned pats, and then next was Alex's sheer shock and wonder if his mare was alright. 🥺💔

Also gutted for Alex but what a kind rider. He knows the horse and made the call to ask once again quietly but listened when she said no.

Yeah, I was super impressed by Alex - I know he's flown across the Atlantic at great cost and it must be SO gutting for all but how he handled it was so lovely. No escalation of pressure, just listening to his horse.

Sad Artist didn’t win, he is such a beautiful horse but his SJ wasn’t up to the other two phases. Well done Felix.
I didn’t realise Phelps was a dodgy show jumper, he was mega xc.
Did anyone survive the SJ yesterday evening? Talk about stringing it out as they hadn’t many competitors. Thank goodness for Ian Stark but it was SO slow and boring. If I hadn’t desperately wanted to watch Artist, I would have switched off.
I hope they get more competitors next year.

Same here! Dull as!
I was sad Artist didn’t win, but agree his sj didn’t really deserve the win. Still love him though!
And really pleased to see Felix win, lovely to have a different nation take the win, Cartania looked a tricky ride to Sj and he was very tactful!

Saw Quindiva had an overreach so Alex thought her front was sore hence why she didnt want to drop off. He is a great horseman and such a pity as was making it look easy.
Delighted for Felix Vogg. Artist is amazing but she did say he was a bit Vitali in the last phase.

I think it was great he listened to her very clearly saying no, but I’m a bit 😱🤨 that a superficial over reach caused that type of reaction - seriously, event horses at that level are hard nuts and the adrenaline usually overrides far more significant injuries than that!
If it is that then she is one sensitive lady!
