i'm probs really starting to bore you all with all my problems with poppy, i really don't know what to do with her. i have had a woman contact me yesterday after seeing our ad on project horses. she is like an hour or so away and is looking for a problem pony to do her first stage of parelli with.

she is looking to loan for at least a year. now i was very reluctent to read the rest of the email but i carried on, to find she has 15 years experience working for riding for the disabled, has been a riding instructor, work at a highland pony trekking centre and has a horse care qualification. so she is clearly more experienced than me in many ways and i can't help but be tempted to let her come an see poppy. i'm so drained from poppys constant barging about biting and squishing me, i can't get her to leave the yard now at all. my confidence is really really disappearing, and i now fear i am loosing interest completely in horses

i just want to be able to go out on a nice older horse on a hack every other day

it so draining, i do love her to death, and tbh she is a lovely lovely pony when shes just getting to live in the field being groomed everyday, its like she just doesn't want to be ridden.
 
I know the feeling! But I have to addmit I've abig soft spot for 'different' horses, either that I'm completly insane for having two of them!

Am also working with a rescue horse at the moment who had the 'I'm not working' attitude and she used to buck at the slightest touch off the leg and not want to leave the yard. I've been working with her for threee months now and she's just started walk, trotting and cantering happily with no tantrums.

What exactly does your little girl do?
 
If this woman lives near by then perhaps you could come to some arrangement whereby you can go and visit her, see her progress etc - then you will know how she's getting on, if she's happy etc then decide at the end of the year if you want to keep her or sell her.
 
zalacca - thats exactly why i am thinking seriously bout this lady cause she is so close, an if poppy isn't happy i will be able to do something bout it straight away

scm- shes a heedcase basically, she pulls barges squishes me against wall bites me, has no respect for me whats so ever since i got her back from her being on loan.

if i had my own land i would just let her live happily as a broodmare or as a friend to a nice old safe horse that i could hack on and build up my confidence on but thats not a possibility

When my mare was intent on killing me i used a dooley halter on her a done some join up, it worked. Now and then I slip the halter back on for a reminder when she steps out of line. It worked for my gelding too...apart from it was Monty Roberts who worked with him not me! But I carried out the idea with my mare and it is good. Might be worth looking into then perhaps tackling the riding situation once the ground problems have improved
 
dangerous!! last time i lunged her i go such bad rope burn i couldn't fully open my hand for 2 days! she'll act like she goin well then she'll shoot off and gallop away, i use a roller and take the lunge from her bridle through the roller to try a prevent this happening but it make no difference
 
It sounds like you really can't cope with her, she's got the upper hand but given her breeding could probably be a nice pony if got 'under the thumb' a bit by somebody experienced - in the nicest possible way.

This woman sounds like she could be the right person, but make sure you get and check all references, have it in writing that it is a loan only, and whether or not she gets any payment/interest in the pony/increased value of the pony.

Is your pony freezemarked in case she dissapears as some others on loan have elsewhere.

In a way she sounds too good to be true, so check her out. Politely though!
 
she is 10 years old i have had her for 4 years, she went on loan as a companion as her feet went all crumbly, she was taken down nto the beach occasionally when she was there to help her feet which work wonders and she now has great feet, we think they just weren't firm enough with her so she thinks she can get away with anything
 
Ive been in your exact position, I sold the mare and never looked back.

It tok me 4months to bring myself to sell her, and I was upset afterwards, but if I hadnt sold her, I wouldnt have Beau.

I didnt want to ride the mare, I got no enjoyment from her, which is what it is all about afterall!


Personally I would loan her with view to buy, or simply sell her, she is causing you nothing but heartache, and there is a nice horse out there waiting for you!

We actually have one, 16.1hh, 8yrs old, bombproof hack alone and in company, for loan, permanent if desired, but she is at my yard!

i found a really nice looking gelding 16yrs old trues gent 16hh chestnut, still nice an forward but in yorkshire. i don't know any scottish ad sites really
 
what i ideally want is a younger slightly taller version of becky. the horse i had as a companion for poppy, she was soooooooo sweet, but if you were on her on a flat open space she could still run like hell at 24 yearsold
 
Sallypops - I have read some of your posts recently and I really think you should consider giving this woman a ring. We recently had a pony on loan for my daughter who was fantastic to ride and jump but truly awful to handle who was infact dangerous. I am sure that if I had given him more time I could have won him over but having holiday cottages here and lots of children and the fact that my daughter couldn't do a thing with him - he went back. Within days some kind person rang and offered me their outgrown pony for my daughter and she is such a sweetheart - we haven't looked back.

Don't forget we are meant to enjoy our horses and if this pony is getting you down so much for so long - I really think you should look for another home for her. If this woman can drum some manners into her, Poppy will be a happier pony too.
