We had an action packed weekend for once!

First up a lesson on Saturday and I swear my instructor picks times so I always get drenched :o. Mixed bag of a lesson with a stroppy distracted Topaz to start, they were turning horses out and she could not help but stare at them :o, but after a little bit of insistance that I should be payed attention to she worked through it well :D. Her canter work was good from the get go which I was thrilled about as it is her weakest pace. Half pass left is still much more difficult than right and I need to not worry about her neck bend but where her actual shoulders and quarters are ;). Fnished with a look at walk pirouettes which erm as I've been left to my own devices meant they were a unique style at first :o, however once told how I should be doing it they started to look pirouettey :D.

Sunday we were off to Bold Heath, now it feels like forever since we were last there so aims for the day were nice 'clear rounds'. With that in mind not only did I enter two mediums  but also M75 , erm yeah it made sense in my head :o.
Tummy troubles had us setting off late but managed a short but sweet warm up and then into M61. We were in the far ring which had xc jumps stored outside it, these were terrifying :o and then to add to the horror was a lovely family watching with wait for it.... a small child! So it was not our best test :o especially when said small child made a noise just as we were in extended walk and Topaz honestly seemed to think she'd been shot at :o:D, pony club kicking also made an appearance in the canter when heading back to the end of doom! However she is getting more ridable with every time out and that really is the goal, lots of pats to say it's ok and she came back down to earth. So was super pleased with 61% and third in the bronze section in a generally low scoring class.

Popped her away until it was time for M75... Same arena so worked on getting her relaxed at the end of terror, thankfully we were minus small child this time :D. Got to complete another goal of mine and entered in canter :D:D:D, test went much smoother this time. Our mediums/ extensions needed to be more ground covering and we were a little wobbly in our walk pirouettes (but did manage a 6 :)), but her counter canter was actually really confident (first time for everything lol and I think as it was our first time on a curve it helped focus her) and the lateral work went well.

Still a low scoring class (same judge) but still very happy for the level of difficulty to gain another AF sheet and score 62% :D, which was good enough to win the bronze section and place us 3rd overall :D. Four medium tests done, 3 wins in the bronze section and two sets of sheets for areas done, clever black hippo pony :D.

Then a bit of a change of pace yesterday!
After going to badminton and doing the course walk with Lucinda Green, I got (as I always do) that twitch to go xc again. Now as we've had such a long break from when we last did any I felt we should probably be supervised :o, so I managed to bag a space on a clinic at Smallwood with the lady herself . The realisation that I was about to inflict a fatty, mental, cart horse upon such an esteemed equestrian started to sink in, but in for a penny in for a pound and all that so off we went! In an effort not to be laughed at too much, and much to Topaz's horror this has happened:

Though I needn't have worried Topaz was more than up for the challenge, I learnt so much and we had a ball :D. Jumped some decent fences, only had a stop/ run out when I rode like a pleb so once I sorted that she just flew. Lucinda seemed to like her too, despite her somewhat unconventional breeding, saying she was super, athletic and had just the right sort of attitude *so proud*. She did also name us the loons :o as Topaz was erm a 'touch' excited to be out jumping. Unfortunately no pictures as I went on my own :(, but it was a fantastic experiance.

I think a little more leaving the ground may happen this year!

Thanks for reading x

Great report, Brilliant results! She looks so beautiful, I love her! XC clinic sounds amazing so jealous, I haven't been XC in ages!

Thank you, we had the best time XC! Lucinda is a lovely person and a great coach, so glad we went for it as I was quite nervous that we'd not be up to her standard :o, but we had a great time! Managed to get through loads too from tack (we made a suggested bitting change), to position (everyone's stirrups went up :D), to speed control. One of the biggest take home lessage was making sure you set the horse up so they see the fence in plenty of time and that they can look but not stop or run out, which goes back to speed control, they could slow the pace to look but not the revs (the implusion from the hind legs) so that they could look, assess and then jump the jump :).

It was really fascinating to do and I can't wait to go out again now!

Fabulous report - well done!!

Thank you, she's such a clever little fatty face :D.

Well done! I've been quietly following your progress, she is a diamond.

And all of the jealous about the xc!

Sounds like you had a fab couple of days

Brilliant, well done. Topaz looks very pleased with her rozzie. :)

Thank you, she seemed more pleased with the celebratory polo's :D.

Super duper but, you must take a photographer at all times!!

I know I know, but everybody was either working (selfish I know!), on holiday (even more selfish!) or pregnant and didn't fancy hiking round fields after me :(. I'm not sure how people manage to attract entourages?

Ah thank you, she is a pleasure now but she's had her moments over the years ;).

It's been a fab few days, as much as I'm enjoying the dressage there is nothing quite like the thrill of xc!

Ooof fabby fab fab. I really enjoyed your report and am so pleased she's going well. Sounds like you are well on your way. I agree that small children can be a tad annoying at times, but I think she's being a little over the top there haha. Maybe you could de-sensitise her by strapping a small child to C and seeing how you go?!

How fab to have a XC lesson with LC. I have seen those advertised but I'd have the same worries as you, that the profs would find it all beneath them if you're not some whizzy eventer, so glad it was a good session after all.

Plus I'm always on the look out for bf folks who are out and about!

I felt it was a massive overreaction :D small child made a noise it didn't launch at her :D! Plus how can she be scared of xc jumps one day and happy to ping them the next, daft horse!

The XC lesson was brilliant, I was in a group jumping around the same height (80-90), and we all had our own issues, but LG improved all of us and did so with enthusiasm :). Didn't feel like I didn't belong there at all, though the fatness of Topaz did get commented on :o but as she is clearly quite fit it didn't make too much difference :o.

BF and proud ;), the going was great so no slipping, and to be honest I forget these days that she's not got shoes on it makes so little difference to her.

Well done - think Topaz is my new fav HHO horse. Love a heavier (sorry Topaz) type. LG is good - she was a bit dismissive of Irish Bog Pony until she saw him jump and then he had to give leads to all the overbred nutters into the water and she ended up being quite complementary.

Good luck with leaving the ground more! (oh and well done on the Mediums)

Well done. Great pics! Disappointed no jumpies ones. Sounds fab!

Thank you, I know I've even taken to fb stalking those who I think may have been in my group to see if they have any pictures where I might have been photobombing :o:D, but I don't know if it's my rubbish stalker skills or they don't have any either :(.

Heavier  how rude :D, she is big boned merely ;).

Yes I think inital thoughts were 'good god what has she brought a hairy, fat cart horse for', obviously smothered with the professional face of interest and an open minded view :D, espeically in the walk exercises where Topaz tried to pee off with me and LG asked me if I minded trying another bit :o...

However when Topaz took a stride out of an uphill step and log complex, which meant we jumped up the steps and bounced the distance to the log, LG was very impressed, there was suposed to be another stride in there somewhere :o! Topaz laughs in the face of set striding, grid work is interesting on this one :D.

Next time we leave the ground there WILL be pictures, even if I have to kidnap a photographer and the only way they get to leave is to take lots of pictures of me :D:D.
