A 22month old girl was badly mauled by a SBT in a pub garden in Bournemouth...

The dog will likely be PTS this week.

Yet another dog killed and child hurt by the ignorance and lack of common sense people have. How do a dog and a 22month old baby get into that situation in the first place?

Makes me sick.

Goodness yes. The amount if people that haven't a clue about breeding etc but go on ahead anyway as they think they can make themselves a quick buck. Including those that think charging £700 for what is effectively a mongrel and destroying a dogs pedigree. Aarrrrrrrrrgh.

And breathe.

I guess it's easy to be in that situation.

Nice day...people in pub garden...some with kids , some with dogs.
Toddler could have quite easily trod on the dog which in turn lashed out (being a sbt locked on ) & the damage is done.

Don't know the facts as I've not had tv or radio on to hear about

I used to have a SBT and I was always conscious of what he was doing, I simply dont think its enough to say its bad luck. Maybe Im being a bit judegmental, but Ive had to do it enough times : yank the dog away from a little ones outstretched arms etc. Its not hard, if you are a dog owner you owe it to people to safeguard children from your dog - however cute you think the dog is. It can do too much damage to simply leave it to chance, thats what I think anyway.

the problem with my staff is that she adores children and will happily trot off with them, but i keep a bloody good eye on where her attention is and stop her from going off before she even thinks about it, I have had kids come over and just stick their heads in her face, before they have even said hello to her or me! that makes me really cross and i always tell them off but the parents dont even look up from their pint!

Thats it isnt it, its lack of education in both parts. My staffy wouldnt have intentionally hurt anyone but my mongrel would have....just goes to show....

And perhaps more controversially, reproduction...

Quite agree, the sort of morons who would let a SBT near a 22 month old in a pub garden should not be allowed to breed unchecked. Not a bad idea to put tighter controls on the breeding of the dogs either
