So after a an age of traipsing round the same loop ride, today we went for our first proper hack. With smooth roads, rough roads, gravel tracks, stoney and muddy tracks and we even managed a canter! A few off steps on the gravel but tbh I think he did tat with shoes anyway!

I don't get often now, once a week, but hoping his feet can take it, we do school work the other 2-3 times a week at the moment.

He was lame in trot at first, but then I reminded him about using all four legs properly and did some shoulder in and we got some lovely powerful (for him!) trots up the road in the end. He was happy and forwards (again, for him!!)

So pleased, taken a while with lots of steps back but hopefully now moving forwards.

:)

SF that is indeed good news. It's a bit of a path unknown isn't it, one day good, one day not so good, the doubts, shall I put shoes back on, shan't I. I spent all summer going round in circles but with the help of some very knowledgable people DP has just turned that corner as well. Hope your boy continues to feel comfortable and enjoy your hacks out.

Thanks, he'll probably be lame tomorrow obviously!

Although in the school tomorrow, some lunging, raised poles and jumping on the lunge hopefully.

Thats great news, I think we are just a little bit behind you but I rode out on Saturday the furthest we have done since the shoes come off and he felt great. We even had a little trot on the road and he felt fine and forward going :)

Glad to hear it, I'm on my own barefoot journey too (you've probably seen the thread) so I think its fab to read someone else doing so well with it too!
