Hello,

Just thought I’d do a bit of an M update from the past few weeks. We have been out to a few more BD shows and he is like an old pro now!

Took the day off the other week and went to a mid-week competition. We just did the one test, P19 and he was fab, really tried. Anyway, there was only about 7 of us in the class but all the others were really nice horses so I wasn’t sure how we’d fare! Imagine my surprise when I looked at the results to see we’d won it with 67%! He won me £20 prize money too bless him! We were about 3 or 4% clear of second place too!

I have tentatively dipped my toe in at Novice with him a few times, mainly just so we can do a second test if there’s only one Prelim, but we haven’t really entered competitively as he’s only really started to work Novice at home in the last couple of months as it’s taken SO LONG to establish the connection with him. Anyway, the few Novices he’s done he’s got two 60%s and one 61% so he hasn’t disgraced himself but obviously hasn’t set the world alight either!

Took him out last week and did a Prelim and Novice. Prelim was pretty disastrous as the venue texted me the wrong time and so on the day called me in 15 minutes earlier than I was expecting, he still had his boots on and it was such a rush, I got tense and panicky and he picked up on it. So we came 3rd with 64% which wasn’t bad, but I think the judge was being generous as it felt awful!

We then did the Novice and he was so much better, much for relaxed and forward. There was quite a bit of counter canter in it which he’s not really established in so I was a bit worried, but he pulled it off like a pro, bless him! Anyway, we came 4th with 66% in that, which is his highest ever BD Novice score and has got us a couple more points, yay!

At home we have been working on slowing the tempo a bit more, establishing a better rhythm and working on his walk. He really has an amazing walk, it’s a 9 walk but he DOES drop you in it, at home I can go at him and improve it but at comps he is more tense and loses the rhythm, threatens to jog etc so I am still trying to improve it out, but at home it is really getting a lot better in terms of him keeping to the contact in the transitions and forward in it instead of crabbing along!

Anyway, I schooled him yesterday and the BF came with me and was very nice and took some videos! Please excuse my riding as I was on 3 hours sleep and a MAJOR hangover after my best friend’s hen do the night before!

CC welcome, but just a bit of an update really :)

Well done on your win! The day I win some prize money at BD I'll be estatic :D I am dying to do Novice at BD but we've just started getting low 60%'s so I would like to do a little better first!

Can't really offer any CC other than he looks like a lovely boy in those vids. We're also working to slow Saf's tempo in trot as that's the first thing that goes haywire when she's nervous!

He is gorgeous :)

Lol, well, it was only my entry fee plus a pound back but at least he’s started to earn his keep :p I’m sure you’ll be in the prize money too soon, although I’m sure my one time was just a fluke so probably won’t happen again!
