So I've been using the basics eg a water bottle, a plastic bag and an umbrella but I was just wondering how everybody else has gone about bombproofing? Do I tell her she's a good girl or do I just keep quiet until she gets used to something? Or do you think the best way around it is just to take her on a hack?

Thank you :)

Just get your sister's oaf of a GSD x Rottie to 'throw' a horse playball (that he's now decided is HIS toy) at your horse's legs! That works quite well at testing their bombproof-ness! :)

My mare used to be scared of everything, now she is as good as gold (although we do have the odd horse eating crisp packet on occasion) I just take her out and anything she is scared of I ride her up to, give her her head and let her have a good sniff :) once she does it, give her a lot of praise and carry on!
Was rather amusing when I once asked a cyclist if he could hop off his bike and let my mare have a good look, his face said it all! :p

I use loads of different things to play with my boy. He is now pretty bombproof. I started in the school in hand, then ridden.

I lead him up to something and if he is worried just stand and let him look, then he'll have a sniff and I might touch him with it or pick it up and walk around with it.

Basically when they stand calmly with whatever you are doing, give them a scratch or release the pressure.

I find quite a bit of bizarre stuff at charity shops and pound shops. In my collection I have tinsel, bunting, big flags, helicopter flying thing, balls, umbrella, windmill on a stick, little kite, teddies, pop up tent, pool noodles, tarp, carpet, cat tunnel to step over, rattling hula hoops.

Needless to say my boy isn't really bothered by anything now although the rest of the yard think i am bonkers!:D

Definitely not bonkers. I'd say very very wise!:D

You've given me a few ideas. I've tried balloons -- my lot just chase them down and burst them.:(

I give lots of praise when relaxed chiefly because one of mine really responds well to that. The other more nervous one does not really respond to that though with her it is more a case that she gradually gets used to it. She is much better with things she can follow and chase off which is more a game to her. This thread reminds me I need a kite!
