More BSJA Rule Changes....

Sitting in the judges box yesterday with my friends parents - who incidently have the coolest computer program for doing class entries/results on. They where telling me about some new rules coming in.

First of all the prize money is now 1 for every 5 starters or part of 5 starters. So if you had 22 in the class before they would have paid 4 money now they will have to pay 5.

And secondly from 1st April you are not allowed to combine a Newcomers and a 1.10 open. You are allowed to run the 2 classes concurrently but you have to give out 2 seperate prizes. There was some discussion as to whether you could enter both classes and then jump twice. If you could and I had a newcomers horse I would jump the open first and then the Newcomers. Don't know if anyone knows if you can enter both sections.

Ooooh....I knew about the change to prize money....but i wasn't aware of the change to the NC / 1.10m Open classes ! I seriously hope this doesn't affect the viability of running a NC and 1.10m Open at the same show, as in effect centres will have to pay out more in prize money

We'll have to wait and see i guess...

ETS: As to jumping the class twice...i think they might soon twig that people could use it to jump an 'HC' round before going for their DC's

That said, Pyecombe recently ran a Disco and 1m Open concurrently and explicitly stated on the entry form that competitors could enter both

well i know over here they often run concurrent competitions but you can't enter both and jump twice. regarding the jumping HC in one and then jumping in the other...over here if you jump HC in one class you have to jump HC in any other classes you jump that day.

The Newcomers/1.10 can run as a combined class at a Progressive type show, but at an Advanced type show, it has to run as two separate classes. As they are separate classes, competitors could jump in a Newcomer, then in a 1.10 open.

At our show centre, we always run Progressive/Advanced shows as we want to jump above 1.10 (and our competitors do too), but we are finding this harder and harder to do with the rules that are coming.

We'll have to watch this one to see what happens.....

Just when i get near to the point where i need bigger tracks they're gonna become even rarer

I knew this was a concern when they brought in the new schedule categorisations....and i wrote to the BSJA at the time voicing my concerns

Seems they could be about to make it even worse

The 1.20m is already pretty well extinct in Sussex at weekends

It would seem the divide between ams and pros is likely to get wider.

Yep....which is a real bu99er for the likes of you and me who are on horses with the ability to compete at Pro levels, but with riders who need to peg it back a level or two

when we were desgining the schedules for our advanced shows, we werent sure whether to put a new or a 1.10 on some days. (mainly because the 1.10 is a money spinner & we always have tons of entries, but we like to put on newcomers for the young horses as they are important)
We have pretty much ditched the 1.10 opens. But we always have a 1.15 open though, to do instead of a 1.10.

In fact, before the recent schedule changes, you couldn't run a 1.10m Open at an Advanced show....it had to be a part of a Progressive schedule

I guess the fact that you can now have one might be seen as progress, but i do worry that financially it won't be viable for centres to run in this way and so money will dictate what goes

It seems a little daft that in one respect, 1.20m has been deemed the maximum height for amateurs (as per the Amateur Schedule category), and yet in another way, 1.10m is being used as a cut-off (as per the Progressive Schedule)

My understanding of the newcomers/1.10m saga having spoken to to my mum who is a judge, is that as from April 1st a Newcomers is classed as Advanced and a 1.10m open is classed as progressive... so if a show runs a purely advanced schedule then they can only run a Newcomers and in order to run the two... like most shows currently do, they have to have a prog/advanced schedule - and im also guessing therefore more expensive for the venue?!?!

It also affects the 1.20m as they are saying that if a show runs a foxhunter they can run it combined with for instance a grade c or a ameuter class but then they have to run a seperate 1.20m to follow .. or something like that !!!!

Nightmare eh, good ol' BSJA at its best!!!

I was told it wsa because a lot of Newcomer people where complaining that since the class split was changed to 30 in a class instead of 20 they just weren't getting placed anymore as all the grade As took the money. So why not just change the split back to 20?

I would have thought getting your DC and NOT getting placed was ideal as it keeps you in the class longer

Probably the people complaining don't ride 'normal' horses like us that might hit a fence, they will be riding the £60-100k Newcomer horses that have never touched a pole in their life so just a formality getting a DC before they move on to better things

, might as well make some money on the way.
