More details on Saffi, the GSD in need of a home.

Thank you for bumping it FLH, sadly no news. I agree about not totally ruling out homes with a dog and have said as much to Ben in an email. Unfortunately he has not been back in touch with me in about a week, I hope it is not because of bad news about his dad . I was contacted by someone on here about Saffi, who seemed to have joined just to send me a pm so I got quite hopeful. I gave her all the details but haven't heard any more.

Saffi will be 11 on the 24th of this month, I' m wondering if at some point soon I may have to suggest to Ben that the kindest option may be to put her to sleep.

Seeing my girls playing in the snow makes me think of the lovely picture of Saffi in the snow, which made the cover of a national GSD magazine, she was such a happy dog then

It does sound a little worrying that you haven't heard anything and as you say she isn't that young

. But it sounds as if she's had a good life, after all she doesn't know anything about how old she could become and though I'm sure I would think similarly in your situation, she doesn't know anything about your dogs playing in the snow.

Though it hopefully isn't time to give up yet about Saffi so fingers crossed.

This is soo heartbreaking.

There is a charity - and I will try and find out the name of them - who organise foster's especially for dogs like this.

I really, really wish I could help.

It is Saffi's 11th birthday today, and she is still looking for a home

She is no longer in kennels as Ben took her home to see if his partner could cope with Saffi living in the garage (with a few home comforts added) short term while he looked for a home. Whilst I am pleased she is not still in kennels it is still not ideal and apparently Bens poor girl friend is really suffering from her allergy. So please keep Saffi in mind. Amymay, I hve not been able to track down the lady you told me about, did you have any joy with your contacts ?

The last I heard he had brought her out of the kennels and had converted part of his garage with carpet etc for her in the hope it would work out. His poor girlfriend is still getting a really bad reaction though so it is not going to be a long term solution

The last few weeks Ben has been busy trying to rent out his Dad's home and find him a place in a nursing home so has not been actively looking so hard for a home for Saffi but I think he is now back directing all his attention to her. I keep getting my hopes up when someone shows interest but then nothing further happens, it is so sad. Her details are on several other forums but the trouble is that most people who go on those already have a dog, and as you found out she needs to be an only dog. Thank you so much for asking about her, I will keep updating people on here and am still keeping my fingers crosssed the right home turns up.

Oh dear, what a terrible time Ben's been having. I'll keep on looking out for any possibilities for Saffi via friends & family.

Again let's not forget that Lliedi did say Saffi ignored their Lab bitch. It sounds to me as if Saffi is a dog that knows/believes she has a high rank, together with another dog with the similar rank/attitude it wont work. Also I've always heard that it's more likely that two dominant (or not dominant) dogs of different breeds gets along with each other than two of the same breed, so since Saffi didn't bother about the Lab but wanted to show the other GSD that she was the boss, then maybe you should just rule out other GSDs or GSD bitches?

But obviously if Saffi would go to a home with other dogs, it needs to be rather special owners and then it's the thing about her age and Ben and his father's situation that doesn't make it easy to return her if things doesn't work out.

Anyway I'm still keeping my fingers crossed.
