BD have this afternoon been notified of a further case of EHV-1 in a dressage yard in Aberdeen. There appears to be no clear link with the cases in Gloucestershire. The infected horse did compete at Myerscough Premier League, leaving there on 10th March. Veterinary advice has been sought by BD. The normal incubation period is up to 10 days, so any horses exposed to the virus and subsequently infected would be likely to have already been exhibiting symptoms by now. However all members are advised to remain vigilant. Twice daily monitoring of temperatures is advised along with effective bio-security measures in yards. Further details and advice can be found in the BEFs factsheets - EHV and BIOSECURITY.
A statement on the NAF Five Star Winter Dressage Championships will be issued shortly. Over the last few days we have been trying to put in place effective bio-security measures to allow the show to go ahead. The latest outbreak is being discussed with the vets to ensure our advice to members is as effective as possible.
