Bob is now stabled at night and out during the day, and has put on a lovely amount of condition so he is 'just right' now. He still needs to build muscle but this will come in time!

At the moment he is on a scoop of Alfa A Oil. 2/3rds scoop Baileys no 4 cubes, and 1/2 scoop Speedi Beat morning and evening, with ad lib haylage.

Just wondering what to change his cubes to, on the basis that I dont need him to put more condition on so dont really need to be feeding no 4 still? Or should I hold off changing his feed until he has built more muscle?

I am a Dodson & Horrell fan, so was thinking of just feeding pasture mix, Alfa A Oil and Speedi beet instead?

Will he be staying on the same kind of work or will you be upping his exercise?

Personally I would stick with the number 4. I would not be surprised if he begins to lose weight if you go to pasture mix, my girl did. Baileys contains more protein (I think) which is essential for building muscle too.

If you don't want him to put on any more weight, I would maybe change to alfa a, or even just a cheap chaff like honeychop, or lessen/remove the speedibeet.

Depends on the weather Kao

He did have quite a lot of time off in December, but I started riding him again properly just before Christmas. I am now intending to ride 5 times a week for 45 mins each time - mixture of hacking/schooling/hill work/jumping

you could swap between the number 2 and 4. Essentially they are the same feed but the no 4 has more calories - so when he is quiet feed the same quantity but of no2 and when he has done some more put him on the no 4.

Bailys do also offer a free yard visit and will come out and advise you on what is best for your horse.

Thanks for the comments everyone

Based on what you have said I think I will stick with the No4 for the time being, and monitor how he is doing in terms of weight/condition/muscle/fizziness. Then either reduce his feed or change to no2 if I think he is getting too much

Thanks again

Not a fan of Pasture mix anyway tbh, the colours are a bit vibrant for my liking

Stick to the No.4, is a good feed and will help build muscle
