So, my mare is 96 days pregnant today, not that I'm counting or anything.

She is still living out, but grass is getting poor, so have started bringing her in for a few hours a day so she can have hay.

Brought her in at lunchtime today, then went back down about half 6. Rode her as normal, just walking and a bit of trotting, as ever since she got pregnant, she hasn't wanted to do much.

When we got back, I gave her tea, but she wasn't interested at all (most unlike her), she nuzzled about in it a bit and that was it. Thought maybe she just not hungry as been eating hay all afternoon and so turned her back out. Within 5 mins of her being in the field, she lay down, had a half hearted roll and just stayed down. I have only seen her laying down 3 times in the 7 years I've owned her. Am then panicing she may be colicky or something even though there were poo's in stable and she was fine while we were out. Came home for my dinner and have just been back down, and she is up and back to normal mooching about the field.

So, this has got me having a little think, very dangerous! Am guessing she was either just tired tonight, or maybe foal just making her feel a little uncomfortable. When will she start to really feel the foal inside, moving etc? Are there any really good websites that can tell me step by step stages of the pregnancy?

Sorry this has become a bit of an essay.

hi, I had my first foal last year, you can read everthing, but the way I dealt with it was, the mare will know what to best. FROM FOAL TO FULL GROWN, I found that this had everthing I needed to know, best money i.ve ever spent, we now have a beautiful leggy yearling who will be out on the circuit next year, this was the mare first foal & she was just the perfect mother, nature does take over, good luck & best wishes, it will be the most beautiful thing in your life.

Thankyou. I have got a copy of that book, was one of the first that I bought. Unfortunately, we moved house, and so far I haven't found the right box that it is in. Will have a good search over the next few days.

Losing weight, the grass has just all died now and gone brown. She comes in every day for hay but doesn't eat much so I assume shes getting enough.
