hiya i'll give ya's some more info on my mare since my post the other day was a little vague....

my mare abby is a 16.2hh 18yo TB. she is wetherbys registered and is a lovely lovely horse. she previously competed in eventing for well most of her life before coming here. when she came here we discovered she had an aneurism (sp?) which means she cannot do alot of hard work. she also has a bit of arthritis but its controlled with good turnout and cod liver oil nothing else, only becomes an issue if she has to be kept in for any reason.

i've been trying so hard to put off finding her a new home because we are so attached to her, and well we have just got a really good bond.

however i still have my highland who i can still ride and take on rideouts etc but having the 2 and working full time is becoming to much for me, especially when i can't get anything out of abby. i'm not rich and all my money goes onto the horses but i think its time i began living in the real world and realise i just cannot afford it anymore. i love them both dearly and they only get the best of care they are my babies

i am looking for a kind loving experienced home for abby. she will not be sold, i would like to loan her out...... i'm terrified of her going to the wrong person and getting passed about or worse

she would only go as a light hack to someone who knows TB's, she may be 18 but she can still run like the wind

also to whoever wrote this on my other post:

I dont understand why a horse suddenly becomes unaffordable just because they hurt themselves serving us...to me when buying a horse its for life and thats through good times and bad. I hope you find a good home for the horse but I do think he should come before moving onto the next model, esp at that age/health.

sorry just feel that way.

i would never just get rid of her and get a new model. i have my highland too and i will not be getting anything else for quite a few years. she is a very much loved horse and we are trying to do the best for her by finding her somewhere nice to live out her days in peace. its unaffordable for me because i have the 2 horses not just abby. trust me if i had the money she would be going nowhere. it seems i can't ever do the right thing

There are good homes out there. My 8 yr old tb had to be rehomed through injury and like you we had financial issues( sign of the times) I gave him away to fantastic home rather than resell on the condition that he had nearly year off for rehab and he is now coming back into work.I would never have sold if we had land and our livery wasnt giving him good quality of life.He has 10 acres company and lovely new owner.

Have a look on project horse.I moved him on as companion with chance of light hacking home.I had discussions with people that told me to pts which I would never consider .I spent £11000 trying to give him best treatment and gave it everything I had .Dont worry about negative comments there are 3 good to every 1 bad .Its only someones opinion.

For goodness sake, why do people have to get on their high horses every time a member considers selling a horse that doesn't do the job they need any more? As long as the horse is sold honestly and a sensible approach is taken to finding an appropriate home what is wrong with having a horse for a purpose? We have two in their 20's who won't be sold but that is my choice and morally I don't have to do that IMO.

Your mare sounds like she would be ideal for certain people and as you are being honest about her there's no reason why she shouldn't find an appropriate home either to purchase or loan her. Best of luck.

its not high horses its just a different opinion of what's right: theres no prob not being able to afford to keep 2 horses any more, that happens, its just its always the old lame or sick one that seems to get moved on, not the young healthy one which would have a better chance of a good genuine home. No apology for being sad that the oldies or less than perfect horses are the ones to go, to me they are the ones who have earned our care the most.

I'm sure the OP has the horses best interests at heart in her mind. Personally, I couldn't sell an 18 year old horse who has given me his/her best but due to injury can no longer offer what I desire. The seller may be honest but the buyer may not. Financially the horse will be worth peanuts and that will be enticing to a certain type in the equine community and I couldn't risk that.

Apologies - just re-read your post. You want to put her out on loan only.

I would then recommend you advertise her for loan in local tack shops, regional horse magazines, local riding clubs, livery yards etc.

Why not get somehere dirt cheap, i,e basic grass livery no facilities and then possibly find a sharer to help with the cost and riding?? It might work out, should you not find anyone.
