Hi, further to my earlier post about my horse being a nightmare to get his poultice on, I just have a couple more questions.
Firstly I put a hot one on today and he's turned out with a boot on top.
Now I can do him tomorrow and Friday but thursday I'm away and I just have no one to do it. We keep our horses at home and mums to scared to handle him.
So shall I do a dry one tomorrow lunch time and hope it stays on til Friday or do a hot one again?
I know it's not ideal but I have no choice.

Join the club, we have two with poultices at the moment :D Duct tape over the bandage is brilliant, keeps the poultice on, secure and dry !! We poultice wet for two days (out 24 hrs to walk about and no changes in poultice) then dry for 3 days, then Keratex if clear.

I use a nappy and duct tape and find it stays on very well. I don't worry too much if it falls off, I think it loses it's effectiveness after an hour or so.

If you cut a nappy to fit the foot then bandage with cohesive bandage.
I then make a sole using gorilla tape which I fold up around the hoof then wrap duct tape arond the hoof to finally secure it.
Gorillatape is 3 times tougher than duct tape and doesn't walk through when turned out .
If you google it amazon sells it in two widths .
It costs more than duct tape but much much tougher therefore you use much less.

I would use a nappy cut to hoof shape with gorilla tape it will easily last until you can do it again.

Agreed with the nappy trick.

Just make sure you used lots of vet wrap to secure it.

Personally if I had to leave a poultice on for 2 days I would rather it dry -wont have the same affect of a wet one but at least it will keep the wound clean.

Just make sure the foot can breath from the coronet band!

Hi, I got up there today and took the wet one off but it had already come off and was in the bottom of the boot. I've left it off but kept his field boot on so it all stays clean. Il look at it again Friday.
