Another week ?
Anyone got horsey plans this weekend?

My "through the eye of the judge " DVDs arrived so I'll make some time to start watching them. Got 2 freestyle ones and a GP one so plenty to be getting on with ;)

The horses on the yard have swapped to summer routine so they're turned out overnight. I think this is the time to get going with Darcy again. I'd parked him when the lockdown started as he was getting more ridiculous at home and suddenly we couldnt do our much-needed arena hires ? hopefully he'll be quieter for the better turnout.

More of the same, otherwise...
Getting cabin fever so hoping others have stuff to share.20200331_182105_compress52.jpg
Pic of kira on our walkies to kick off :)

Did my summer leccy fencing last weekend. So this weekend will be putting away winter rugs, sorting out what will be going to get washed proofed and repaired for sale and what will be going in the bin or given to people for free, condensing the tack room and taking stock of what I need for training the wee guy over summer to keep it handy whilst packing everything else away :)

Working this weekend again, repetitive story!

Otherwise I will try and get out, but it's been very wet (not that we mind!). If it can stop raining for a bit, going hacking will be super because our trails will be nice and soft for pony tootsies :)

I bought some clippers the other day and am trying to decide whether to clip soon or wait until May. I was thinking of just trace clipping now and clipping out later, but will have to keep debating with myself. L will need clipping because she's a good sweater and we have excellent hills to get that sweat out ;)

The highlight of my week so far was the tesco delivery yesterday lol so I hope someone posts something exciting

Milliepops it is exciting that your bringing Darcy back in to work, like that.

We've een slowly and gently working away in the arena. Missing hacking already and we have to do some work on a hard surface as M is still transitioning so we are hand walking up and down the driveway and along the lane to the field a few times a week.

Tonight we did an in-hand session in the arena, first one since before christmas and he is a little rusty so will continue that over the weekend as well as riding.

Nothing much. Also already struggling with no hacking (embarrassingly, because it's not exactly a difficulty in comparison to others atm). Arts and I have been practicing corners this week (these are not one of her natural strengths), and think we are tentatively starting to get a bit more sit and self carriage in the canter .

This weekend will be devoted to more loose jumping/polework I think, since both girls seem to be really enjoying it. Will stick the big one on a the long reins.

K has been back on corners bootcamp this week so she shares the pain. I've let her get away with shallow ones til now but I think shes strong enough to make a bit more effort now.

Maybe those of us confined to arenas could come up with some themes for the week as we go further along with these restrictions. Like an informal train-along thing? Something like corners is perfect because it is possible for all levels to adapt.

Good idea!
Haha, I'll tell Arts she's not alone - she's been insisting that she's just been following the prevailing gvt advice to 'flatten the curve'

Farrier came tonight so big horse is all sorted again, yay! He came late so nobody else was around, which worked very well.

I'm going to do another online dressage test through my instructor, pleased with last week's effort of 69.6% in prelim, hey well all have to start somewhere ??

Tomorrow will hopefully finish work on time (12.30pm) then head up to ride. I'd say I'll probably do my dressage on Sunday. ?

Great start, sheep :D

I had really wanted to do some online dressage as several of them have added FEI classes, but now i can't hire a long arena, that's off the agenda :/
Maybe darcy will pull his socks up so we can join in ?

I've signed up to Noelle Floyd Equestrian Master Classes and have gone through the Tik Maynard one and am halfway through the Ann Kursinski one. Have also restarted Dressage Rider Training. Amber is home (hurrah) and I've gone right back to basics with her: walk work mainly and lots of groundwork and TLC. More of the same over the weekend x

Hacking, flatwork, and pole work.

Then I need to finish the fat horse paddock, mow the other paddock, pick up rocks in the paddock, clean out the tack shed, convince my chickens they should all be laying eggs, might have a go at making hot cross buns, and drink gin. All this free time isn't very free!

I am lucky to still be able to have lessons, we had a great one on Wednesday so I have lots of homework to practice.

Mr Red started full time work on Wednesday, really missed him in these 3 days (he hasn't worked for 5 years as he is retired). So, we will probably potter in the newly formed veggie patch we started last week, plus look after the plants in the greenhouse. That is going to be our together time at the moment as it is more balanced than playing horses, as horse stuff is more my stuff than his (although he is very obliging).

I haven't ridden since the tightening of the lockdown, it coincided with the brisker weather and my horse is good, but certainly more frisky when it is cold and windy. It is due to be 19 degrees on Sunday so hopefully we will have a ride/school in my arena and maybe a bath time spectacular (grey horse!).

Also, Hector-dog is felting, he doesn't exactly moult, he never drops hair at all, but in spring his curly long hair becomes lugs. I have found that this happens whatever I do, so I leave it for a while then clip it all off. He is also due a bath as he stinks (old arthritic dog who pees on his own paws!!!).

This afternoon, before Mr Red is home, I have signed up for a live online painting lesson. Doing a watercolour of wild flowers. First time for me, not artistic at all.

Hope everyone enjoys their weekend!

What do the courses do, have they helped, more info please?

We are very fortunate to still be able to ride here and can school and hack on the land and hack down through the local village for change of scenery, if want to ( i tend to do this early AM as no one around) but mostly we have been trying out new schooling and pole exercises.
Am moving into summer fields tomorrow, so lots of electric fencing taking down and putting back up again - (bit of a slog, but great excuse to spend a few hours at yard without feeling guilty!)
I have made my summer field much larger than usual and will mark out a dressage arena in part of it, for the time being , so can get some practice in. without having to tootle over to the communal schooling area.

Am am also on low alert foal watch, but no real signs yet and mares due date is 12th April, so next weekend on wards will be on tenterhooks :-)

stay safe everyone x

Doodle was suppose to be going out in a pen in the field, but that looks on hold again now after some box cantering :(. I'd love to wash Skylla's tail but YO doesn't want people at the yard longer than needed which is understandable, so I'm not sure being horrified by her yellow tail fails into essential :po_O? Might trim Topaz and Skylla's heels up though, they're all tufty again, got to keep up appearances whilst n-oone can see us lol.

Might do some pole work, if the weather holds we can have a canter in the field (most of our forest hacking has been blocked off due to all the dog walkers that 'suddenly' appeared , so hacking is off the cards for the moment).

This is a fabulous idea.

Some ideas for new exercises also would be great - I find it so easy to get into a bit of a blinkered rut

Pony desperately needs exercise for his waistline and his brain - but also don't think it's wise to have him at full fitness concert-pitch just in case of a sudden close-down.

We still have a couple of short hack routes we can use and a small sand arena.

I’ve been inspired by this thread to give my grey a thorough bath! He’s moulting now and is due his spring mane pull and heel trim so I think a pamper session is in order.

I ended up riding this morning having said I wouldn’t as yesterday, full of spring grass and not enough exercise, he refused to come in and behaved like a total twerp. So bootcamp schooling in our field resumed this morning and all is well again! He’d normally be fine with a few weeks off but the timing of this is not great...

Riding out around the fields mostly. The sheep have moved onto the far field so we’ve got our fields back. I felt really miserable this last couple of days. It’s mostly because I’m worried for my new business. I had been open for just 6 weeks when this all happened and I’m so worried that all the hard work I put in was all for nothing. I feel like I’ll be starting again.
Anyway, tonight I tacked Millie up and went out for a hack around the fields and I felt so much better afterwards.

I’m hoping to finish painting the stables this weekend . I’ve done the masonry. Just the woodstain to do now . Will post some pics later as I reckon I’ve done a grand job ?? ponies are out and starting to get bored now.
