Ok the puppies have suddenly made themselves known - kicking and pushing but only when Bunny is relaxed.

So a couple more questions.

She is due on Monday - are they usually on time or a few days late.

How many pupplies are likely in a first litter - she seems huge.

The due date is never very precise! They can easily go 5 days over or under. She's a JRT right? I would guess 5 or 6 would be average.

Lily's puppies came bang-on their due date and to the hour. She had 6 puppies altogether, her first and only litter. 1 puppy was stillborn and a 2nd puppy died overnight on the first night, so we ended up with 4 puppies and that was certainly a good number for Lily to look after.

I believe statistically, that the birth of most puppies run pretty true to their due date.

Unfortunate as it was to have 2 pups die, I believe it happened for a reason. I don't think Lily would have made as good a mother as she was, had she been straddled with 6 puppies.

VERY exciting!! Not long to go now.

My JR had 5 pups in her first litter and whelped bang on when she was due. Did you manage to get hold of a copy of the book by Kay White? That'll help a great deal.

Bet you're really excited.

I found that maiden bitches tended to be early or on time rather than late, but there are always exceptions. The only JR litter I had there were only 2 huge pups, not to be recommended. I would say that 4 or 5 would be a nice number for a first time litter. Hope everything goes well, please keep us updated.
