I'm beginning to lose the will to live with this poor filly!
I had the vet out with regards her teeth, who said that she is erupting molars and to steer away from hay as she is struggling with the chewing.
I have moved her and my old girl to a rested field with a decent covering of grass (old girl thrilled!) and they are having a bucket at night.
All good, but then she started losing her coat....in clumps....with bald flaky skin underneath it.
It's definitely not ringworm, and the lice she had are long gone.
I started her on Micronised Linseed and flax oil (the oil you only give 3 to 4 times a week) in with her Calm & Condition but this hasn't done a great deal, although her coat does look stronger and less staring.
She is dreadfully itchy, which isn't surprise given how her skin is lifting, and will spend quite a lot of time scratching herself and rolling, she also always rolls after every meal although the vet doesn't think it is anything to worry about, and according to her breeders she has always done it.
Yesterday I noticed that the skin on her withers is very flaky and that she is reacting to any brushes as if they are electric shocking her, or hurting her skin, and today when I took her rug off her withers are slightly swollen and very warm.
Her worm count has come back as 1800 strongyle eggs pg even though she has been 5 Day Guarded and had an Equitape, and so as advised by Westgate Labs she is having a full bottle (225ml) of Panacur Guard over the 5 days, so 45ml a day.
She has lost weight and condition in the last few days too, so is (if I'm generous) about a 1.5 on the 1-5 condition score scale.
Vet will be back out tomorrow to blood test/investigate/skin scrape/provide tissues whilst I have a mini breakdown, but I wondered if anyone had any insight as to what on earth I am dealing with?!
Sorry - I hope you can understand this, I'm rambling!
Thanks in advance
Mel
