Heart attacks and burst aortas will display differently - heart attacks are as your described, normally very quick and usually the only sign is the horse collapsing. Burst Aortas the horse will start making spastic movements of it limbs, erratic in nature, kind of similar to cramping but much more involuntary.

i am sure you are right but my point was one can hardly compare these things with the AT thing can we. and i have seen a horse that alledgedly burst its aorta and the rider certainly didnt have a hundred yards or 15 seconds before the poor thing was down. they were lucky they werent squashed themselves as it fell.
Calm down, its not that I haven't "bothered" to look at the video. But I couldn't FIND it! Yes its horrible, and cringeworthy....But as I said she had NOTHING to gain had she known the severity of the injury....
slightly missing your point casey actually. As far as i can see she finished the course as she had quite alot to gain being in first place at the time and the prize money at Rolex is not stingy. And she might have gained a live horse, who know how much worse the injury was made by jumping that fence. No doubt she was hoping the creature had just pulled a shoe and i bet you if she had not been in contention she would have done differently but all this has been said before....

Forgive my ignorance, as I have limited eventing knowledge...But wouldn't she have had to show jump the following day, if she first passed a trot up?
[/ QUOTE ]
Yes but its amazing what you can get sound and through a trot up in one nights work!
I wish the FEI would hurry up with their decision.
Cefyl, I just read the last comment on the blog, who is Todd Trewin, and what did he do that was abusive, does anyone know? (1992 OLympic Trial Barcelona) I just googled him, and he had a horse he was successful on called Sandscript, but that was all I could find out.

I lived in Washington state at the time, and I think, Todd Trewin, was part of an inexperienced team America fielded for the Barcelona Olympics. Todd's horse wasn't fit enough to complete the course but give him his due, he got off and walked him over the finish line. Am I right or was that someone else? I know afterwards there was huge criticsm for the way the squad was selected because the Yanks did so badly.
severnmiles - You're right, they couldnt disqualify her for nothing as she did actually finish..... Im sure that as soon as it was apparent the horse would not be fit to SJ then AT would have withdrawn?
Do you think Lucinda actually saw the footage? Or is she just defending a person. I recall her talking about AT in a clinic and I remarked how it was a sham about her being an everyday person. I had to defend myself on that one because I didn't know for a FACT that she wasn't well off. But please, I'm a geek, hubby is a cop, we are just now trying to buy a farmette and there's no way in holy heck, even with a ton of sponsorship in America, that she can afford to take that much time off plus buy a nice farm and do the things she's doing. None, no way, no how. And it was always a rumble about that sham. Just haven't looked at her tax returns ...
Anyway, I seriously doubt someone like Lucinda would defend AT if she actually saw the entire footage. The horse totally changed from about 5 fences back and she was hitting him AFTER the fences. Remember, this was a hard to control horse under the other rider.
Very foolish indeed! But I just cannot understand why LG who by all means is a good horsewoman, would stick up for Amy if she had seen the footage. Maybe shes just saying it to back up MP....
Ummm, well ...
I doubt she was sticking up for MP, more like she met with AT and liked her. When I was telling her about the latest MP fiasco about him poo-pooing adult amatuers, she kinda jumped right in and basically said that was a stupid move and I got the drift that she did NOT care for him AT ALL.
I just find it hard to imagine her sticking up for such a blatant display of abuse considering what I've seen of her clinics and how much she cares for the horse. I think it was a 'open mouth before thinking moment'

Is it only us armchair riders who think AT should get the book chucked at her.. yet another pro who is sticking up for her...
This time Lucinda Green..

She had perhaps 10 seconds from the horse going lame to making the decision to jump the last.
Amy had no longer than me to assess and react and I dont believe it to be a case of abuse at all."

That is complete BS! It was more like 20 seconds and she set the horse up for the last jump! The horse tried to stop not once but TWICE and she kept pushing him foward.
