I am eventing at UA 80 and although have a pretty sure footed horse, need to think about studs for the wetter days (had a slip SJ which cost us a clear round!)

I have never ever had studs before as when I was younger it wasnt really a thing! Fast forward to now and even Google can't really explain which studs to get, should they be the same front and back, inside and outside etc.

Please can someone start from the very beginning. I am a very experienced horse owner but this is so new to me it is very confusing!

Thank you in advance - I appreciate everyone has a different opinion but some general guidance will help!

Small and pointy for firm ground/short grass.

Domed ie blunt ones for softer ground...

With both types use the smallest you can get away with, ie start small and get bigger if necessary.

One or two in each foot is more of an individual decision, with one stud the foot can still rotate, but with two it's more balanced.

Most people will use v small (if any) studs in front.

Personally, my Connie is OK with an outside stud in each rear heel, and nothing in front, so that's what I do.

A mare of hubbys with big flat feet needed studs all round.
