more sarcoid questions......

-If the patch on my mares girth is a sarcoid, how well is it likely to heal?
-We do endurance, so will it mean that she will always have a bald area that is likey to rub?
-Or will the hair grow back?
-Finally anything I can help to protect the area once it has healed?

Apologies for all the questions but have no experience of sarcoids.

We are still waiting for the Liverpool cream, but it is expected anytime

Newbie here:) My boy finished his second lot of liverpool cream earlier this year, and you wouldn't know he ever had a sarcoid - and hopefully never will again! They do get sore though, so if your girls is on her girth, she'll be having a few weeks off. I think it all depends on the sarcoid as to how they heal, mine were on inside thigh on a big vein, so took a while to drop off, but fine now. Try a sheepskin girth cover

My mare has had her sarcoid on her girth treated and is doing really well. Treatment started at the beginning of June and i still can't ride her, likely to be September before i can get on her again. Its a long process and very frustrating but its healing nicely and the cream has a great success rate. It'll be worth the wait though! Good luck
 
About 2 yrs ago Sunny had a (?) sarcoid on his face under the cheek piece. He had Liverpool cream applied 4 times, with 4 days in between each application. I didn't ride him for the 2 weeks or so that the cream was being applied but I did the moment it stopped, stitching a snipped off piece of an old sheepskin girth around the offending bridle part. At no point was Sunny ever unhappy about the treatment or the after effects. About a month later the dodgy scabby thing on his face fell off, new hair has grown and you'd never know he'd ever had a problem. Good luck x

Okay, treatment has started , but only on the occult sarcoid on her inner thigh. Now looks as if the areas on her girth and elbo are tack rubs from our endurance rides

so will need invesigation once she is healed and ready to ride again!

So far, so good! There is only a small amout of swelling and she seems happy enough. Vet back today for second treatment.

Don't want to be a wet balnket, but it just may be a lot longer than a few weeks before you can ride again. My horse had 5 sarcoids treated with Liverpool Cream last October - 2 under girth, 1 under saddle, 2 between back legs. The 2 between the back legs fell off & healed in a few weeks. With the other the scabs stayed stuck on & as the Vet could still detect a lump under them they needed a second course that finished early March - the first of those scabs has only just fallen off! The scab on her back is about 2" across & has only just started to lift at the edges. Knowing how slowly the other 2 scabs have taken to lift I think it will be at least 2 months more before the last one is off, probably longer. So at the moment the best scenario I am looking at is that she will have had at least 12 months off.
To be fair the majority do heal up in a couple of months. I have just been unlucky & my mare is very prone to sarcoids (she has more than 30 others, but they are not causing any problems) but just be aware it can be longer as I know several people who've had the treatment now & I don't know anybody who has been warned that a few horses take a long time to heal.

doesn't seem to be bothering her and vet has said unless she seems to be in real discomfort not to worry.

Hairycob, not going to rush into riding her again, but do miss it. Am riding my youngster instead, but that is rather exciting at times

Hoping that the lady vet come on Monday as she has horses herself and I can ask her advice!
