I've been told by two people today that we are in for another big dump of snow next week...has anyone else heard this?

I've had enough!!

Well I'm desperately hoping they're wrong. It's been bitterly cold up here but has stayed dry and the sun has been out, although not shining enough to thaw the ice! I can cope with the cold when it's like this, but I can't cope with any more snow!

I wish Spring would hurry up.

We had a little bit this morning but nothing worth talking about, didnt settle. I have just looked at the long range forcast for my area and it says snow for the 6th feb, that will probably change though.

I'm sure the forecast for down here is getting milder??? Horses still have their winter woollies, but I'm sure the shoots are coming through in the fields?!

Still, only January - could have another 8 weeks of winter!

I have heard 3 weeks of snow & as cold as -25 in early Feb  Just hoping it's not gonna happen

:D Well, due warning and you are all pretty well used to it by now. Could be worse, you could live in Australia at the moment:( at least snow doesn't wash away houses and lives. My cousin had to stand and watch helplessly whilst his house was wrecked, a bit of shovelling snow and having to put a couple of extra layers on, really, in the grand scheme of things, is a mere inconvenience.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO I refuse to believe it.

Endya I don't think anyone is suggesting that we've got it worst but snow is more than a minor inconvienance for many of us.

Agree totally, we have relatives in Australia as well. Still not looking forward to big temp drops if they do come. I have had enough injured horses, burst pipes and flooded stables for one winter. But I do realise it could be a lot worse.

I know:( you all seem to get hit really hard by it.

I hope to God that these winters aren't going to be a regular occurence for you all, because otherwise, Britain (parts of it), like it or not, is just going to have to adapt, a case of sink or swim.

WTF is endya?! I meant enfys LOL. We cope incredibly well but it's the infrastructure that can't cope. Frozen pipes is the only thing that kills me because we have tried everything and can't stop it.

only just recovering from last spell bad weather and rather stupidly looking forward to spring!!! ponies have been working for 3 weeks and only just turned corner starting to behave and look good for this season. cant cope if we go back to being snowed in!!![

My google weather thing thats set as my home page says Guildford has got snow on Tuesday!!!! But that will prob change (fingers crossed).

God I hope so. I know its not a big deal in the scheme of things but I have my horse pretty much back to fitness, clipped him RIGHT OUT having allowed his entire coat to grow back through the snow and even Ye Olde Lady is now sporting a fetching low chaser. Sorry, I know its all about me but I have my first jump lesson tomorrow since November and actually arranged to go out stressaging beginning of Feb...

Yes, if global climate change means we loose the gulf stream our climate will become like that of northern Canada, we're the same latitude, it's the gulf stream that makes our climate much more temperate.

You're absolutely right. We are also on the same latitude as Moscow! It is only the gulf stream that keeps GB mild and allegedly the melting north pole ice cap is going to prevent the gulf stream from reaching us in future. :( :(

I am also worried about the effect of climate change on our summers. If we keep getting poor summers and no decent harvest it will make horse ownership increasingly unviable. We certainly won't be able to cope with the long harsh winters without a decent barnfull of hay/haylage.

Sorry for the doom & gloom!

but I have daffodils starting to come through, I was half hoping that meant we were closer to spring!

ignorant I know but they do say ignorance is bliss

What?! Puzzle is moulting, I took that to mean we were done!!

My boy is moulting too! I know he does moult early but its only January! Anyway glad to see I am not the only one with a shedding horse (and a white one at that). Actually today he was acting like it is spring already! He is entire and was being a real pain-in-the-asss while I was trying to poo-pick his piles (good thing about stallions all gets done in one or two places), each time I looked up he was rearing, cavorting, bucking, rolling, more bucking, more rearing! Wouldn't stay away from me and when he thought I wasn't looking was trying his teeth out - spring behaviour! (luckily I dodged the teeth but it was really tiresome).

I've checked the met office website too and it's not mentioning anything, oh please please no more snow! We still have some lying around from November. Couldn't get to the farm for a week and then had to walk half of it until a week ago. Also couldn't get my son to the doctor, get food in, and nearly ran out of coal for the multi-fuel stove which is our central heating. Going to be more prepared next year with a 4 wheel drive, a FULL coal shed, and plenty of revolting UHT milk in the cupboard!

I'm sorry for any offence caused re the Australian floods, the reason it wasn't mentioned was because I was talking about snow in the U.K. I was by no means implying we were worse off over here...just pointing out that it's been mentioned more snow is on the way... God help them all over there, I've seen clips of it on the news and it's hellish.

Exactly.
The infrastructure.
More plows, more salt, more organisation, just more.
I also realise (and can understand) that all that costs dosh and Councils are reluctant to fork it out if this isn't going to be an annual event.

I know that the majority of people have got things sussed now, burying your pipes deep enough can't be done until the ground thaws out and is expensive, as is moving pipes and taps undercover.

I have a couple of troughs that have to be filled by hose - that is a massive PITA, so I know what it's like: unrolling, filling, draining, rolling, dragging back into the pump room so they don't freeze.

Noooo!! It has been getting colder here and is sposed to carry on getting colder. Farrier said on monday we're due more snow! Had to put H in his HW, and glad he's not been clipped again! Field will be well and truly trashed. Yard was a b***h to get into and out of last time, so hopefully lessons will have been learnt. Horses will be out of work (again), yard wil be coated, horses won't go out... it's ridiculous!

ETA: Just looked at met office, no snow forecast for colchester next week!

None for us (Central Scotland) next week according to Met Office. TBH we can get snow as late as April so i'm not celebrating too soon.
