I posted last week about 2 vans found parked outside my yard at 6 o'clock one morning, I must have disturbed them and 2 men came out of my yard, got in the vans and drove off. Well, it seems the plot thickens....

We have several gypsy camps in the area and although some don't cause any problems, there are a few new ones about at the moment. I have seen quite a few men around our area lately with coloured ponies and gigs, seem to be racing one another (usually on the main roads!). Well, last week a farmer reported to police that a load of horses and ponies had been dumped in his field which backs onto one of the gypsy camps. The police came in and took all the horses away. And so I am left wondering what's been going on. There are a couple of horses on the stolen horse register that have been stolen in the South West, one of which thankfully has been found. Do all stolen horses make it on to this register do you think?

Priddy fair coming up - i bet they were leaving them to graze the farmers field until then. I am amazed the police did anything - as horses become the responsibility of the land owner who's land they are found on as I found out to my cost when I found a rough looking pony stallion in my fields. I had to sort it out - police not interested - RAPCA not interested. But if I had just let it loose again - i would have been held liable.

Also to be honest horses stolen in the south west are unlikely to still be in the south west - they are far more likely to have gone up country where they won't be so easily recognised.

Yes, I had exactly the same thing with a rough looking colt found in one of my fields a few years ago. The police and RSPCA weren't interested. When I spoke to the police about these men seen at my yard the other day, they were actually quite helpful for a change!

Agree with Boz, Priddy Fayre is this Wednesday, but I was talking to a yard friend and he said that last time he was at Priddy there was a huge artic lorry which belonged to a horse dealer from the Netherlands, he was buying up anything half decent left, right and centre, taking straight back to the Netherlands and then exporting to the States as there is a big demand for coloureds and vanner cobs.

I went to Banwell horse auction which has been started up again, this weekend. Lots of poor specimens and hardly any of them were making reserve.
