What do you do for your horses which you really don't need to do, but you do it because they are special.

My naglett gets two stinging nettles hung in his stable and some horse treats lined up on the shelf for when he comes in in the evening.

Is there anything you do that's a bit out of the ordinary that you know your nag loves :-)
 
Yes. Mine gets a feed, only a handful of hi fi, because she likes bucket feed & expects it. Always gets hand fed a treat when catching or turning out, plus one at night in winter when I am going. And at 23 has earnt the right to do a great deal of whatever she pleases with me as she's always well mannered & doesn't take advantage.
 
Um......... stinging nettle?? Presume its dried out?? Coz know some horses just lurve them, like thistles, my old pony used to curl back his lips and just nip out the centres of them - hilarious to watch.

If my lad comes in for the night during the winter say, he just loves a swede tossed in to the stable and will play with it and get his teeth to work on it and just chomp it up.

But his fave treat is a marmite sandwich: he'll lick his lips for ages after it - plus its good for him as he's got sweet itch.

Little mare has a sweet tooth and loves an apple to crunch up and dribble down her chin with! Not so keen on the marmite.
 
I must be a hardnosed cow as mine dont get anything extra than what they need.....very occasionally they might have a carrot, especially in winter if they have to staxm in long hours the go carrot hunting in bed. But im a neurotic lami owner :o

I dont even give mine carrots (ulcer prone)!

she gets nothing as treats....unless i can find sugar free polos lol! :D
 
Mine gets her nose and face rubbed with my hands each time I take the bridle off. She's always itchy then and seems to really appreciate it - and it stops her trying to use my whole body as a scratching post!
 
My lad loves a small bucket of tea with milk and sugar, slurps every last drop
both of ours enjoy marmite on toast, I toast because it's easier to put the marmite on, they also enjoy their feeds dampened with warm water with marmite in, how I discovered that, god knows
 
Erm my two enjoy strawberry ribena and especially if i start drinking it i get socked in the face either side by a pair of noses if they dont get a bit and a generous kick from ones front foot if i dont share.There favourites are extra strong mints i normally hide them around the field,really amusing to watch them for an hour with noses to the floor. :)
 
A square of Kendal mintcake for an extra special rare treat, but having her udder scratched is her favourite thing, so I can often be found in the middle of the field with her cocking her leg like a dog for a scratch.
 
All my home bred ponies love to reverse in to me for a bum scratch in the places they cant reach ! People who are non horsey look on in horror when they back in to me! Never bred a kicker yet!! My daughters first pony loved a can of coke which he would grab in his teeth and upend. I have one who loves a tipple of whisky from my OH!! It was a regular thing years ago to give our hunters a can of Guiness after a hard day.!

Yes, GreyDonk gets armfuls of goose grass/cleavers (thanks to some of the kind advice on here), carrots hidden in his haynets and his treatball filled with those Badminton treats.

In the winter, when it's really cold, I add Speedibeet made up with hot water.

All of our homebreds do this, have had a few panic moments where I remember I haven't made someone aware of it and they launch themselves out the way. Horses just look bemused do a three point turn and come crashing into me instead :D

Once people are aware they do this, they also don't realise that scratching often turns into being sat on as the horses forget that they aren't little and presume you are also going to hold them up while they're in heaven :rolleyes:
