Hi.
I am looking to buy a trailer for my 14HH cob who weighs roughly 360kg. It was suggested maybe a lightweight or single trailer. Are they much cheaper than say an older IW505? Can anyone recommend a particular type? It will be towed by an Isuzu Trooper.
Advice/opinions much appreciated!
Cheers

I have a Bateson derby - its lightweight, and was cheaper than the bigger Ifors. The trooper can pull a lot though, I only got a lightweight because it was being towed by an estate car. Single's always look a bit unstable to me

I'm also looking for a new trailer at the moment! I had a look at the Ifor website & it looks as if there's only a few hundred pounds difference between single & double...

I would not get a single...I know they are cheaper but my friend had one and had loads of problems pulling it as it was high and slim. They are not at wide as a double trailer so I would not really go for a single...also if you have a friend you can take them with you :0)

Hi - thanks for replies!
Looks like a single one is off the list then... but a lightweight one still seems okay tho' don't seem to be many second hand ones about - any other l/w recommendations other than Bateson??
Cheers

I had a look at a single Ifor the other day and was tempted, although I did wonder if it would feel a little claustrophobic for the horse. What put me off in the end was the thought that if my boy started to play up or something happened, there's no where to go. At least in a double you can always quickly go across to the other side. Friends also advised me later that they're not so stable to tow.

I was also tempted by the Richardson Rossette are lightweight specifically to be towed by a car.

I was looking at second hand trailers but got a bit carried away with all the shiny new trailers and wound up buying a new Ifor 505 Classic and am thrilled with it. I tow it with a Mondeo and my horse is about 450kg and it tows lovely.

Happy trailer shopping - how exciting!

Choices, choices... I've got this feeling that I'm going to end up with a IW505 too - my first choice when I first started looking! I've got no problem with towing, I just wanted a cheaper trailer (can't believe the price of second hand IW) tho' looks like I wouldn't be losing too much even if I bought a new one.
Thanks again for info
