Ok so our ponies who live at home never see the vet apart from routine vacs. 12 months ago I weaned our homebred warmblood and sent him off to a beautiful livery yard in the next village. Fantastic grass (which we dont have but that suits my ponies fine), great youngstock barn and generally a lovely quiet place for a baby horse to grow up in. Until we had 3 little coloured foals that had been 'rescued' come into the barn next door. (Very large barn split into 4 huge 'bays'). My youngster and one of our old ponies acting as nanny in one, these coloureds in the next section and a mare and foal in the 3rd.
These 3 foals didnt look in great health, were covered in lice,(owners were treating them). After about 2 weeks my youngster started to look really down, 2 days later full on strangles symptoms. Called vet straight away and strangles was confirmed. My lad was very very ill but has since recovered after £1300 worth of vets bills!!! . Sadly the mare with the foal also caught strangles but also got colic with it and died. The foal was very traumatised but nearly a year on lives happily with my youngster.

Then 3 months ago I bought my daughter a gorgeous 5 yr old 15.2hh. On sunday he seemed a bit snotty and today he came in with sores and rubs on his head. We called the vet straight out and he has diagnosed sinisitis and dermititis?? He has taken blood tests and will test for strangles and ringworm but he is pretty certain this is not the case.

Another vets bill and just before xmas!!! Great!!
