So went off to Moreton morrel today for Cow babys first PN.. was worried about the ground but decided we could just mosey round at our own speed or WD before xc!

anywayss.. dad had blocked the lorry in and long story short we left an hour later than planned :O

got there to find out we'd forgotten his passport.. quick ring to daddy

and the very nice secretary said we could compete if she could see it at some point in the day!

So off to dressage.. turns out his breeder was there (no pressure or anything :P ) he just wouldnt concentrate.. there was platic tape flapping and the ground was very hard.. so we just went in hoping for the best!

The dreaded test :P : down centre line.. trips over his own feet.. duhh dopey boy! then turn to do my loop along the long side and she paps her horn.. i turn round in shock to hear her say you should have looped here... I start again hugely confused... and loop again.. she beeps again.. and shouts '10m is too the centre line.. not the 3/4'

GUTTED! as it turns out.. our letters at home are set out 60x40 and stupid mummy just thought 10m was the 3/4 line...
so already had 2 errors of course =(

carried on with a very stressful test.. I couldt relax after knowing I'd messed it up!
Ended up with 39 which to be honest was less than expected so was fairly pleased!

Moved onto showjumping.. which was running SO late.. very frustrating!

he warmed up perfectly.. just one pole down in about 15 jumps and pushing through nicely.. went in... there were 9 fences and we had 5 of them down.. his showjumping is so frustrating.. he warms up amazingly.. we get in there and he just seems to lose control of his back end!!
So any SJ help would be appreciated pleasee

So went to the xc thinking I had nothing to lose from wandering round it slowly as by this point we were WELL out of any chance of a shiny rosette haha!

Set off very nicely! and I was so impressed with him.. he was really bold.. sailed over everything and only a little encouragement needed through the skinny holed hedge..

popped like a pro through the triple and then we got to the water and my GOD he has no respect for his own legs... We clouted the boat on the way in and then lost impulsion coming out and literally sat on the blue skinny on the way out

but we finished clear with 10 time pens so was still thrilled with him.. I think we have a little Xc machine on our hands!

so all in all:
I must:
1. learn my dressage arena dimension properly

2. somehow get him to respect his own legs (and the fences)

so bring on Holdenby in a couple of weeks and we'll see he can improve any further! and maybe some pics to come!

What a great start to his BE career. We wish that the judge had beeped and corrected our horse yesterday but they just deducted two marks and let her carry on and then she did the same thing on the other rein and lost another two marks[ transition to walk at wrong marker]
You will be one to watch in the future, well done

oh carthorse thats annoying!
she didnt look very impressed she had to get out of hr car twice though!!

and old git.. we do grids a couple of times a week and unfortunately he pops perfectly through it, just out and about he loses it completely!

maybe he only needs a good canter and 3 or 4 jumps before going into SJ. Dressage a serious pilot numpty moment. sounds nice xc though. good luck at next outing.

thats a good point ofcourseyoucan..

maybe at holdenby I wont warm him up as much.. perhaps he overcooked as they were running so latee!!

and yeh

numpty pilot moments happen regularly in dressage.. its a yucky thing!

Sounds like the xc was fun! Well done. Frustrating about the dressage, but think how good your mark would have been without the two errors of course and subsequent stress

Maybe you over do the warm up for the showjumping? I do only maybe 4 jumps before going in which with what I jump in the ring equals the number you jump in warm up!

I was there for the 100 and it was the worst sj track i have seen this year.Look at the results cricket scores everywhere. We were actually forced to go in early as they were running by times not a board. When we were warming up the surface before the fences was really deep and the warm up area was chaos.

Did'nt matter too much no way was i runnning our horse on that xc anyway. At least at aston ua last week they had worked the ground and put a lot of effort into it.

Sounds promising

I would do a max of 7 fences warming up with a baby, normally a cross pole twice (once in trot) an upright twice and then an oxer a couple of times, depending on how quickly you can build it up/how confident the horse is.

I am not sure what to say about the BE100 SJ at Moreton Morrell. My mare jumped easy clear but perhaps we just got lucky. Would be interested to hear why Super_Rascal thought it was worst SJ track this year. Just 'cos there were hardly any clear rounds doesn't make it a bad track.
