Ah, I think the confusion has come from the title of the video then - as it does carry the words Wild Horses in the title and description:

soo..Tash got BADLY kicked!! NO CRIT. wild horses approached us in the new forest yesterday and they were nuzzling us so we filmed but one turned nasty. Tash is alright now just some cuts on her back :L we think its funny now but as you can see it was scary at the time!! :-O! xxx

Glad no one was seriously hurt.

Equestrian4evax, maybe this experience will remind you that animals are not machines and can be unpredictable.

I would not approach my horse in his paddock and start messing around with him unless he had a head collar on and I was on the other end of the rope. Let alone a horse that I had never met. They weigh half a ton and have very hard feet, capable of travelling very fast. Surely, as someone who has had as much experience of horses as you say you have, you should understand this.

Sorry, but if a loose horse approached me, I'd be a bit cautious. Regardless of whether I saw other people stroking it or not.

Never mind, no harm done. Chalk it down to experience and dust yourselves off.

And don't blame the ponies.
hello,
i never thought horses are machines and never will! i do regret getting that lcose to them as anyone would if thst happened to their friends,
i think part of it is because my 29 year old loan, i ride her bareback in the field and get close to her when she has no headcollar and leadrope as im not one to regard to safety, more of a natural way. I do reget this event though.
regards
Amber

Most of the mares are going to be in foal and at this time of year not long to before they have their foals so they may want their own space more than normal.

It looks like it happened very quickly and the girl would not have had time to get out of the way but you can't blame the pony, people forget that even though new forests are renowned for their gentle natures these are semi feral ponies not domesticated ones who are used to be handled every day.
yes, i agree, i deeply regret getting as close to them.

Amber, you have to look at this from the views of people who have lived/do live in the forest, and have to see the devastating results of people playing with ponies every day.

Have you driven past the dead body of a pony who tried to get titbits from a speeding car? Her herd standing round her in a horrifically human-like show of mourning? Her baby still nuzzling her tail in case she got up again?

Because I have. If people treated wild newfies with the respect they need, then she needent have died.

When people then post videos that APPEAR to show wild ponies attacking children (which, 14 or not, you are!) and revealing in how funny it is, it makes those of us who are concerned for New Forest ponies sick.

If in doubt, stay away. I have been around horses my entire life and I have run for my life from newfies. They are wild animals and all tourists who feed them do is condemn them to death.

Perhaps next time you are in the forest you could pass on the warning of playing with wild ponies instead of filming semi feral ponies kicking your friend!!

Oh come on guys - leave them alone they are kids - I suppose you lot are purer than the driven snow and have never done anything stupid and reckless before?

I will put my hand up to jumping on a strange pony's back one time just for the sheer hell of it and promptly getting thrown straight off! No hat either!!

Shoot me, shoot me!

i appreciate your comment, and i now see this in a different view although i still feel offended by what people have been sayingtowards me & my friend, i really appreciate your ocmment and the next time i visit the new forest i will spread the warning. Thankyou
Kind Regards,
Amber

Alright Amber enough with the apologies everyone makes mistakes:)

I have a question for you though: Are you aware of all the publicity over the past couple of years which suggests and even encourages the handling of ponies in the wild? If you are do you think this influenced your decision to approach them? Just curious.

Unlikely at 14 and visitors to the area :o

This did not influence me whatsoever and i haven't heard of this before.
ive been around wild horses before but from a safe distance so when someone said i was aloud to get a bit closer i was causious but jumped at the chance as i assumed as they were owned and saw people approach them earlier i assumed it would be safe, likee i have said they did approach us, but i DEEPLY regret it!
sorry for so many apologies i just find it offensive so many people are turning on me when they dont know the full stoiry. comments liek yours i do appreciate though.
Thankyou (:

I'm afraid this is where you have been misinformed or got the wrong end of the stick. ALL of the ponies on the forest have owners, but they are all still wild and should not be approached. were you specifically told by the hotel owners they were friendly to touch or did they just say they owned them? If they did I am incredibly surprised as everyone who lives in or around the New Forest is educated not to touch them. I take it they are free to roam on the forest and are not fenced in.

Sorry but at 14 you are still definately a child. Adults are not overly impressed at you being in 'year 10'. I finished Uni more years ago that you have lived, & I'm still the nice side of 40.

What you did was unthoughtful, unsafe & with no appreciation of the animals that you were around. I grew up on the new forest, & in all the years I lived there I never fed a pony or tried to touch one. If you are as 'experienced' as you say, then you & your friend should have read the horses body language no matter how close you were. In fact that you didn't shows just how inexperienced you are. That you are 'backing' a pony again is not going to impress people, more they will worry about the pony given how you both behaved in this situation.

It isn't clever to touch a 'wild' pony, who do you think you are, Monty Roberts for heavens sake? Even somone with his experience spends time working with them before he ever gets to the point of touching them. That you don't like the comments, well you've done something stupid which could have ended in serious injury to yourself or your friend, what did you expect people to say about it?

This behaviour from someone with 'equestrian experience' is a childish ego trip, grow up before you get hurt.

oh i see, im very sorry as i did not know this, i cant really remember but he just said something slongt he lines of he owns them and they are very friendly, because we asked if they were his, but i see really that didnt give us full permission to touch them even if they did walk up to us. Thankyou very much for making me aware of this as next time i go down there i will not touch any semi-feral or feral horses. x

Hello,
in no way did i mean to 'impress' anyone, i was just stating that we are not 'little girls' as some people were calling us, i know its not clever to touch a wild pony and i deeplky regret it, his owner told us he was friendly, so when they approached us we thought it'd be okay to be that close, we deeply regret it, the horses were following us around and shpowing no signs of that behaviour and i wanted to capture such a magical moment, so i put iton film, standing that close to the horse, Tash didnt see his ears go back and his eyes grow wider, i only mentioned my 5 year old, as i was getting rather annoyed about people thinking ii was a little irl on small lead rein ponies. we are never going to approach a wild horse again and im sure you can understand why i was feeling abit upset about the comments made, someone said i should be put to sleep , others stating im an 'idiot' which at the time i partially was but its quite offensive for someone to say it to you in that amnner, and look at the title of thsi thread?

kind regards,
Amber

i do appreciate your comment, but i just feel rather dishartened as i didnt even know that over 250 vies of the video came fromt his thread which is why i have put the video on private.

I think another lesson to take from this is that if you post this sort of video on youtube, people WILL think you're idiots. I never understand why people put this stuff on youtube

I personally wouldn't have just posted your account on here! I have just watched a video of you riding down the road, no hat, no saddle, just a head collar and a rug, and you say you are experienced?!?

the road was blocked off on one end, so we were riding down it from the field, its called bareback, and i get bad migrains in riding in a hat so i only wear it when i have to, and i know you will sya thats a moment when you have too, but i had a migrain earlier in the day so i chose not to wear it, my arens know and they allow me too. its my descision wetehr or not i wear it. i now have a special hat which i got fitted to my head, because of my m,igrains so now i wear one (:
kind regards Amber x :)
