Fined £ 1000 for badly beating his horse at Ardingly after she refused a jump. A spectator said the the crowd was stunned into silence and the mare had weals on her after he had finished. Shame CL wasn't there to sort him out. Great advert for Showjumping at a time they are trying to increase public interest. What a knob !!!

Hi Rambo, colour pic and article in yes mail on sunday, article also went onto say local BSJA peeps were angry the incident had been hushed up by BSJA, comment from BSJA to say they often do hide disciplinary issues from everyone. Didn't say anymore about location or event other than Ardingly.

Looks like Pilgrim had a lucky escape!!

Oh bl**dy marvellous

Just what the sport needs...

In the good (?) old days the BSJA used to send round a load of bumph every month or so that included a list of shows, rule amendments...but more notably a list of all disciplinary matters and list of suspended members. You don't seem to be able to get that information anymore...not from the website anyway

Unfortunately for showjumping it is a best seller, so therefore any bad publicity reaches a very large audience and I suspect animal abuse is not going to be seen positively by anyone, if the guy can't ride the horse so that she trusts him and wants to please, don't ride her at all.

Just to clarify, i'm not condoning DM's actions in any way...just p155ed off that it's been made headline news

As you say...a top-seller...at least if it was in the sun you could pass it off as sensationalism....

You say shame CL wasn't there......who is CL?

I think it's a reference to ChocolateLog's rant in another post about some mistreatment she witnessed at a show recently

Good article in the Mail. Doesn't surprise me about BSJA not issuing press release. I would not want to win an Olympic medal with someone like this in the team nor would I want him representing my country. (Note his recent dismal performance of 16 faults, the worst of the team!) Also begs the question: if he'd do this in public, what happens in private?

I know that Pilgrim was sold - does anyone know what happened to that other good (grey) horse he had some years back called Pfeffer?

Also, why did he change his allegiance to the UK after previously representing South Africa?
