My boy is very wet, he pees for england lol! Heading into winter and would like to find something really absorbant before he starts coming in at night.

I currently use shavings on mats, they are very thick mats so he normally only gets a sprinkling with banks around 3 sides. Did this as he was very messy, but he's atually become a lot better so I could probably make it deeper if required and hence hopefully, more absorbant. I know what i've got isn't working brilliantly as I can see it running out of his stable (it slants forward) and it's gross when I lift up his mats lol.

So would really like something that would suck up lots of pee quickly and would work on mats, ideally doesn't move too much but that's just an added bonus.

Thanks :)

I use a brand called sundown, its a mixture of shavings and chopped up straw (both dust) extraxted, and has eucalyptus fragrence added that stops it from been stinky. I really like this beddding makes a lovely fluffy bed and really absorbant. They will deliver a whole pallet if theres not a stockist near you. Here is a link to there website, hope you find it helpfull.:)

Im not 100% sure as i use it at work and my boss gets it, i then get freebies for little pony.;)
But im sure when i started using on my pony the girls got it from a farm round the corner they were paying 5 pound odd for it! So not to dear. Might be worth a call though as you can get pallets delivered and one or two pallets would easily fit in a garage or maybe get a pallet delivered and share it with another livery.
I would highly reccomend it though i have some real stinkers at work and it fab, and our stables actually smell really nice, not at all of wee!!! :)

i've heard great things of megazorb, never tried it though.
i'm still hooked on Ecobed cardboard bedding, tried wood pellet bedding but have gone back to cardboard, as it's absorbent and dust-free.
have you tried training him to let you catch the wee in a bucket when he first comes in from the field? it'll save you tons of bedding.

We have rubber mats and use Miscanthus (elephant grass). We put thick beds down as these seem to work better than just putting a sprinkling down. I have a very wet horse and found I was using far too much Megazorb with him. At the moment he is in during the day and out at night and I am using one bag every fortnight.

kerilli - interesting idea, how would I train him to do that?? lol!

eggs - sounds interesting, will look into that :)

zoe - will do some research into sundown, sounds good :)
