but apart from that is pretty tidy in her bed. Am after a really absorbent bedding - tried megasorb but it didn't suit. She is on rubber matting as well btw. Any suggestions please

Im another flax fan- cheap and it actually does the job on a couple of my really really wet horses. I use it over rubber matting- a bit goes a long way.

Woody Pet is essentially the same as Aquamax but is a bit cheaper.

aquamax is slightly different in the fact that it is made from clean pine white wood rather than just softwood. this I believe helps with the smell of ammonia (as in the pine helps to eliminate this) and it also has a natural anti septic property.

Can I ask why megasorb didnt work? I was considering it for one of my girls, who also manages to soak her bed.

I use a mix of Auboise and shavings, my mare is on rubber mats with a thin bed and aubiose alone wasn't enough, the wee just used to sit underneath in a puddle but mixed with shavings it is more absorbant.

Probably not ideal for everyone but it seems to suit Lia and i don't smell of wee when i've mucked out

I would use Flax. Its supposed to be fab with rubber matting.

The Megazorb was quite dusty and Tilly & her surrogate "mum" (a gelding who adopted her when her mum died) are in a large stable with a dividing 4ft wall between them, so share the same air space. I did persevere with the megazorb for a couple of weeks, but it just got dustier and the gelding has COPD, so it was no good for him. Will definitely investigate the Flaz - is there a particular brand?

I use Equisorb which is flax. However I heard the company that makes it, Belvoir, are in receivership, so hope they will continue to make it. I've used it for about 3 years on my big chap who also wee's for England, I take the droppings out daily and the wet out about twice a week. It was about £6.50 a bale the last time I bought some a few weeks ago, and I use a bale a week.

I used Hemcore last winter and found it super . Same as Auboise although cheaper I found - also its made in UK and Auboise is made in France.

Straw. At 50p a bale if I use 3 bales a week the expense is not too bad.

My mares been on shavings and the smell and mess was awful.

Ive changed her onto Easibed and the difference is really noticible. Theres no smell and the bed looks really clean and its easy to muck out.

cardboard bedding. it's in small chopped up squares about a cm square, and is very very absorbent, dust free, doesn't break down unlike shavings. can't recommend it highly enough.
Ecobed is the company i use. it costs about the same as shavings, but is far warmer and drier and cleaner.

Another fan of Ecobed here. Been using it for 4 years. I find its cheaper then decent shavings - cheaper still if you buy it direct by the pallet load.
