Most accurate weigh tape

Does anyone know which the most accurate type is. In an ideal world I'd stuck him on a weigh bridge but we have no electricity at field.

I'm currently weigh taping with a Shires one

I have used three different ones, usually 'weigh' light in my experience. Up to 50kgs light on one. Sorry not sure of makes one might have been a Robinson's one.

I cant answer the question as such, but I suppose it depends what you are using the weight for? If just to catch any increases/decreases throughout the year, I don't think it matters all that much. If you need the weight to be accurate for worming or medication, you would be better off finding a weigh bridge you could use.

When I last bought a wormer, I was told to add 50kg to the tape when dosing.

Don't think it matters as all potentially inaccurate but if for monitoring weigh changes then any would be fine but for working out weight where you need something accurate then weighbridge is way to go. Why do you need electricity? The last time the one used by our top spec rep used had it's own battery but what you do need is other people to their horses to be weighed as well as they only come out for a certain number.

I have one that always weighs under by about 30kg and one that weighed over by about 50kg (I lent that one to someone and never got it back). As said i use it for monitoring changes and don't even look at the weight just the cm.

However there is a calculation you can do involving measuring length, round the barrel and using height which I have done a few times and it has come within 5kg compared to a weighbridge. You should be able to find it if you search online.

Hehe, I used my shires tape on my 15.3hh TB and apparently she was a 19hh shire horse.. I must have been looking from the wrong angle. Never found one that works (which is user error I have no doubt) - ask the vet on jab day? They have a good eye usually.

Our yard has an ancient non-electric weighbridge - springs and dials! Works fine not sure on its accuracy but looks as though it is pretty good, but the weigh tape disagrees with our NF actual weighbridge weight (he's deep chested but skinny) and our WB (deep chested and skinny).

Weigh tapes are almost useless for anything except comparing weight from time to time. And in a very thin horse they are no good even for that, because the tape will bridge hollows which have to fill right up before the tape will measure any different, even though the horse has put on weight.
