most embarrasing thing ever happened today :(

Ok so my share horses owner loves show jumping and we regularly go out and about unaffiliated. She rides, I watch as my nerves don't take well to it. She's been asking me recently if I wanted a go and putting my brave pants on I did a 60cm (weeny I know) clear round before Xmas which was great and we went clear despite my nerves. As it went so well I thought I'd give it a go today but thought I'd push myself and do a 75cm, scary stuff! Before I had a chance to even start warming up I embarrassed myself! Horsey doesn't stand very well for you to get on from the floor (we're working on it!) so owners husband was holding horsey and my boyfriend holding stirrup, put my foot it (in my two sizes too big for me boots) and pulled myself up just as horsey decided to walk off. Owners husband cant stop him and I end up on horse. Great? Not exactly. im sat behind the saddle!! I was mortified and didnt know what to do, didnt want to get off and freak horse but didnt want anybody to see me for a minute longer than necessary. Anyway situation sorted when I slid off (not so gracefully) and tried again. So so embarrassing when you can't even get on the horse properly! Round didnt go so great either, ran out of a jump straight before a double and had to go back to the double at a funny angle....queue two more run outs and I was out of that ring faster than you could say eelimination! Glad I gave it a go, but won't be doing it again any time soon!!
 
Sounds to me like you did really well in going ahead with everything even if it was a bit pear shaped. You should give it another go, if the mounting problem hadn't happened you would have been in a completely different frame of mind for the sJ and the outcome could have been completely different.
 
Get yourself back out there pronto! You were brilliant for even trying it and horse is clearly a total dude for not burying you when you missed the saddle (can you tell my mares are quite opinionated?)
You need more positive experiences than negative ones in order to reprogram brain and help deal with confidence issues. You survived! Today was a positive day :-) x
 
Well done for trying OP, you are braver than I am.

If its any consolation, out hacking today my pony completely failed to see a large fallen tree over the path, walked into it and went arse over tit! He jumped up fine (think knees and nose plant!) and I stayed on somehow! Then to keep the balance of life and to make up for what should have been a parting of company for pony, I ducked under the electric fence to turn it back on, caught my foot in the bottom tape and fell face first into the mud, in front over everyone. I swear, even my ponies laughed at me!
 
good on you for still jumping after a knock to your nerves! We all have getting on/off issues, I have be known to fall in a muddy puddle when my knees collapse after dismounting...so it's no disgrace! And brave to push yourself to 75cm too, well done :)

Yeah horsey is fab, hes not bothered by most things, and probably would be more embarrasing if he had bucked me across the car park! Thanks Haffies Rock, i do feel for you but it did make me chuckle! I may try again but i think ill need to do some arena hire and practice a bit more jumping, we dont do any at home during the winter as we have no arena. I'll make sure i leave it a while tho so i dont get recognised as the girl who cant get on her horse!!
 
another one here saying well done for having a go and especially after the getting on incident! I blame sharer's OH!! Also second going back down a height and just enjoying yourself. :)
 
You did good.

And I have witnessed far worse in the getting on stakes. We went to a comp with a fellow livery and her 17hh WB. She is only about 5' 3"... anyways we took a couple of crates for her to stand on. First she fell off the crates, then she fell through the crates, then horsey put his foot in one of them which I decided was far too dangerous and banned them. So she tried to use the trailer ramp as a mounting block, with no success. Eventually she is on the flat, I am holding horse and my (very shy and reserved ) OH is holding stirrup and trying to leg her up. She got half way before she started squeaking that she couldn't get on. Totally without thinking (so he swears) my OH grabbed a butt cheek in each hand and shoved her onto horse.

He has been traumatised ever since and will not be a happy bunny when he reads this lol.

Third going down a height, and remember you do this for fun so don't worry too much xx
 
Hehe ladyinred! Thanks Kat its a good idea whilst I get my confidence up. Horsey would stand for hours at a mounting block, so silly. Thanks for all the advice, ill defo go down a class and go for a smaller venue as todays was quite intimidating! Xx
 
At least you weren't given an over enthusiastic leg up and ended up flying over the horse and hitting the deck on the other side.
I have. It's not a good look.

Don't worry about things going a little off today. Find some competition bloomers on U Tube and cheer yourself up, after all, it happens to everyone who rides sometimes.
 
Awwwww hun i know how you feel. I have bad confidence issues riding in front of people(nasty people chipped away) but i know and been told decent rider. So i agree unncomfatably to take friends horse to show. senior equitation. went as a class lined up. came to my show que major panic attack which i suffered then. exit ring and the lovely judge came out to me calmed me i did my show with tears. I was placed well down (last lol as left ring ) but judge stopped me going out and her words"well done get over your issues you were ridong in top 4" . that made my day so hang i there dont give up and put your brave pants on anothet day

Ikea do a wooden one that is great and very cheap. I try to never get on off the ground so bought one to take out in the trailer.
 
Nothing wrong with sticking to 60 cms till you build your confidence, or enter for the 60 & 75 cm, once you get around at 60cm, 75cm is easy. It really is not the height that is an issue, it is just getting you feeling comfortable - because if you are not your horse won't be either.
 
Ok, I can totally sympathise with you OP, took my mare out for a rare hack this morning and had to get off and lead her at one point cos she was being an idiot, until we reached a deep stream. Decided I wasn't leading her through the stream as would get wet (obv) so went to remount from the ground, she spun and my post baby body that has no strength or balance failed me - I fell off In the mud and smacked my head on the floor. Not great. Thank god no one saw!

I had no choice but to get back on again to go through the stream which I suppose was a good thing. Well done for carrying on too OP!
 
Oh I've done a fair few embarassing things. One of the worst was hacking along a new route and I unknowingly went wrong. We ended up on a narrow bank beside a wide, deep stream with a chain link fence beside us on the other side. I carried on until it got to the point that I couldn't turn around and there wasn't room for me on the horse without taking my kneecaps off as it was so narrow, so I decided the best course of action was to dismount onto the fence and clamber down it and lead until I could get across the stream further up. It was when I was halfway down that I realised the fence belonged to the local rugby club - who were all stood watching my attempt at scrabbling down 'gracefully':eek:.
 
Don't worry!!! These moments are sent to give us a thick skin!! ;)

My sister took her 5 year old horse clear round last week, about 60cm. She'd had a very nasty fall XC where the g-g fell on her, and then a week later came off over a show jump and got dragged by the stirrup, so understandably lost her nerve. Now because he's quite a big boy (about 17hh) all the horrible little teenage brats in the warmup were sniggering at her about doing such small jumps. And then, horror of horrors, his bridle came undone and the bit fell out his mouth :eek3: Mortifying, and the sj brats were having a field day! So you are not alone! Well done for being brave and continuing! My sister continued after her little incident and went clear, but if it had been me I'd have been a quivering wreck :p
 
Dont beat yourself up too much....im sure we have all done it!

I've done a full mount in mid air whilst Billy teleported to the side before and landed on my ass! Very Embarrasing.

Well done on giving the 75 ago! We all have off days, next time you will nail it!
