chicomio whereabouts are you ? i have looked up and down this country and i just dont believe what i want and archiesmummy actually exists in this country anymore ! a friend who lives in france tells me the countryside is like england 50 years ago which suits me fine and that areas away from tourists in spain are just magical. i have that dream. i have to say this country is far too overcrowded for me !!!!!
We are in dumfries and galloway and there are huge areas of forest for hacking, and it's pretty quiet up here on the roads anyway. Also everything seems to be much cheaper than down south!!
We have loads of lovely safe hacking including a 15 mile off road toll route. But you couldn't call anywhere round here affordable/reasonable/cheap.....
I'm glad someone mentioned Worthing!!!
Worthing has some lovely small towns and villages surounding it like - angmering, east preston, patching, rustington, goring, ferring.
All quite rural but then you have worthing a 15 min drive away!
Lovely downs, beach and a really nice place to live, there is enought nightlife in worthing town centre to entertain me and at the same time you can walk on the southdowns for miles and miles.
London is a 1hr15 min train ride and Brighton is 25min car journey
But I used to live in Guildford, Surrey and in Hartley Wintney, Hampshie.
When I was in Guildford I had Ash Ranges, Whitmoor Common there was also Wood Street to explore.
In Hartley Wintney we had Bramshill Forest, a river to play in and a big common with some ranges.
Unfortunately neither was by the beach and I had no transport.
Also the roads in the south, although busier were used to seeing horses and acted accordingly, up here, there aren't as many horses and cars, vans etc don't know what to do when they do meet us.
I've just come back from a holiday in Northumbria and it is gorgeous up there, if I could I would pack up and move there right now! There are loads of bridleways, fields and forests and it is near the coast. It is not built up at all up there and not too touristy either, plus it's a lot cooler than down south which is good as I'm boiling today!
Aberdeenshire is pretty good. There is excellent hacking through forestry etc. to be found - you can go for miles and not see anyone. There are decent beaches near too. Personally I dont hack, but there's loads of competitions up here
No, really, I am just very jealous, that countryside looks absolutely fabulous.
I live in the second largest country in the world, with tracts of open land the size of small countries...unfortunately the precise bit I live in is absolutely useless for riding out on, every inch of it is farmed and the forests are a no go area in summer unless you want all the blood sucked out of you.
Still, come 2012 after Graduation we are running as fast as we can for the mountains on the other side!
Glorious East Sussex, with the South Downs, near Eastbourne. The best riding country that I have ever come across. The beach at Eastbourne used to have lots of sand but the beach and sea defences have been built up in recent years, so would need to go to Pevensey Bay after six o'clock. Sigh no horses now
Sherwood Forest. Endless bridle paths thru incredible countryside. Combines forests with fields for miles and miles. Little or no road work. Just stunning.
Cornwall!! Mainly around carn brea area! The bridleways round there are endless, and sometimes you can go out and not meet a soul, occasionally dog walkers or other riders.
