There was an article about it in H&H this week - my mum text me which I thought it was (I hadn't read H&H at this point) and I said "Milton? Desert Orchid? Maybe Red Rum?" and they were to top 3 in that order! Was quite impressed with myself!

So which is yours?? You're not allowed to say your horse - it's got to be a famous one!
tongue.gif

Not really nationally famous, but there was a clydesdale from around here (maybe he is more famous than I know) called boris, I loved him..never knew what happened to him I have to say!
I have a book about his journey somewhere!

I'm not too sure!! i just remeber the book was about him coming down from shetland, and he pulled a cart around my grans village.
He was the kindest horse though, when i was about 3 i'd be jumping up in his face to try give him carrots and he didn't bat an eyelid, need to go dig out that book to see why he was so special!

My fav was Corbiere. I remember him winning the grand national as I sat on the arm the sofa with a ribbon tied around it pretending to be joining in. I loved Desert Orchid too and Milton. If we could have semi famous I'd say my old riding school pony Jogger who I think once starred in horse and pony mag

darn it, when I read the post title I was going to answer... easy it's Bay Angel (april

)

OK seriously for me it was definitely Milton, I loved him so much and saw him parade at HOYS one year

Also loved It's Otto.

Otto was in the top 20. It's worth buying H&H this week just to remember all the horses we love!
smile.gif

They were all SJer's, eventers and race horses (no dressage horse!
tongue.gif
) except 1 - Black Beauty!
grin.gif
He came in at number 10.

Dutch Gold was 'the' dressage horse of my time. Although to be fair I really wasn't into dressage in my younger days.

I don't think i recall Tigre Bedlam?

I always think of Silent King who was horse and pony's 'horse' when I was a kid. He had a nasty accident in a trailer with a dodgy floor and had to be put to sleep

I think he was an arab or an anglo arab and he was beautiful

1 - Milton
2 - Desert Orchid
3 - Red Rum
4 - Best Mate
5 - Over To You
6 - Ryan's Son
7 - Supreme Rock

10 - Black Beauty
11 - Murphy himself

Hate to admit that I remember Tigre. He was ridden by caroline bradley in the 70's. Fantastic horse.
I also loved Stroller, little 14.2 with wings.
Loved Milton, Ryans Son, Nobert Koofs horse Fire, Desert Orchid, Black Beauty of course and Aldaniti.

Was Tigre a SJer then?? I was only born in 83!!

Some names carry through I think - like Ryan's son, Arkle, Red Rum etc.

Then other's in my time, not sure why I love them so much - like King William, just remember him knocking tons of show jumps down but DO remember him and think he's fab!
tongue.gif

I remember Tigre and saw him at the Bath and West show early one morning being exercised by Caroline Bradley. Ryans Son and Douglas Bunns Beethoven, Penwood Forgemill and Beau Supreme. ( off to pick up my bus pass now)

Another famous one I loved was Monsanta who was ridden by Michael Whitaker.

I remember when Milton was Henderson Milton and then the sponser changed so he became Everest Milton and I was strangely put out (as much as an 11 year old can be!)

Yea I remember him too!!
smile.gif

Had a good old chat to JW on boxing day (it's his local and our hunt meet there) I tried to be cool but I was drunk so don't think it came off that well!! I had to tell him he was the best rider out of the family though - he is!!
wink.gif

Mine is Milton! I adored him! I always felt he had such incredible heart towards what he did and loved it! 'simpley the best' lalalala! {doing tina turner a la catawaling version at the pc!}

I understand why Milton is at the top but my favorite from the H&H list is Stroller. He achieved so much & only being 14h2" competing against the worlds best horses & even at Puissance, he was one of a kind.

One great horse that didn't appear on the list is Phar Lap, truely one of the greatest in all time. He must rank up alongside Seabiscuit, Red Rum, Arkle etc
smile.gif

I agree Toby_Zaphod re stroller. And hugely on phar lap...I watched the film about him hundreds of times and one thing I have begged for is a portrait,I think he is one of the most incredible ever lived with his strength and determination and such a sad ending to his life. He was the 'ugly duckling' to people who became iconic. I only assumed as he was not a british icon he wasnt included, but then as it says seabiscuit!

Has to be Ryans son for me
smile.gif
He was my horsey hero when I was younger ( showing my age here
blush.gif
)
Also my horse always used to buck after the last jump of a round just like him
smile.gif

First time post, its hard to pick a favorite Milton, how about Dawn Run, Stoller for sure, Red Rum and anyone remember Penwood Forge Mill(Won European Championships, King George V Gold Cup and the Horse and Hounds Cup within six days)

mmm
ryans son, penwood forge mill, deister, tigre, philco, buttevant boy, oh - and towerlands anglezarke!

Am i giving my age away now??????????????????

wonder if any are still alive....

BUT the most loved horse in Britain - is .................. Mine!!!!!!!

i avbsolutely adored Milton. i love stroller, never got to see him jump live as i am too young, but i grew up loving him, and have sooo many articles that i cut out of my mums old books and magazines of him, from when i was really really young.

But it has to be Milton for me. i met him a few times, and lead him around, (as he was doing his simply the best things when john was riding our horse) i had all books, mags, videos and any other mebrobilia (sp) about him.
even this morning reading the article in horse and hound for the third time while eating my breakfast i started crying! i had to shut the h&h and finish my toast without getting too teary eyed!! its stupid, but something about that horse, he really was magical, and had so much character....and i dont even need to talk about how he jumped, took my breath away and kept my dream of showjumping alive from my very very very early ages.

with the passion he gave me for showjumping and the amazing talent of stroller, with those two dominating my young life, i thought my two grey ponies where going to be the next strollers and take me round the hickstead derby!!!! hehehe

bless childhood!

(excuse the essay)

I'm surprised no one seems to have mentioned Midnight Madness....he was a beautiful horse, and a big fave or mine when I was younger!

I've got a whole host of horses on my 'most loved' list, not necessarily in this order:

Calvaro (Willi Melliger's grey)
Liscalgot (Dermot Lennon's World Champion)
Corrada (Peter Charles's Derby winner)
Behrejan (Dont ask me why I liked him so much, I just thought he was lovely)
Best Mate - I cried for days when he died
frown.gif

MardiGras - Isnt Boris still around?! I thought he was but was retired after he was hit by the car...?

My favourite has to be Milton. He just had such a sparkle about him, he looked like he really loved doing what he did.
