Looking for a feed that’s as natural as possible for two horses that are non ridden companions, both in very light work currently, not a whole lot of grass but they have plenty of hay though I don’t believe it’s very good quality.

They could do with dropping a little weight but one is on medication so can’t drop their hard feeds just yet.
I like pure feed but they’re getting a token handful for ones medication so not doing much nutritionally so looking for something closest to their own natural diet.
Thunderbrooks has some nice ones but not keen on them as a company, honey chop they won’t eat.
Any other suggestions? Thank you ?

Wouldnt you be better feeding them a balancer? I feed a locally made balancer which is literally just a cup of little nuts that have loads of vits & mins in. I personally find chaff on its own a bit of a waste of money and a bit pointless.

We feed Mollichaff light as it is low energy and good for natives as low sugar/starch too. To that we add NAF vitamins and minerals, and lysine (because UK forage is deficient in this). Depending on pony we either dampen the Mollichaff or add a little speedibeet. Works well for retired laminitic right down to youngstock (all natives or cob crosses).

To keep weight down for all and to prevent them needing to eat bark and chew wood to stay warm, I also provide straw - they eat as much or as little as they need.

I doubt they need feeding and if they're over weight , I wouldn't use a balancer as they always supply calories.
I'd get some Allen and Page Fast Fibre, it is extremely low in calories and sugar , and then use a powdered multi vitamin supplement added to that. Just give two handfuls a day to get the supplement down.
