Is anybody on here livery at these stables? I am searching for more info on DIY livery at these two places? Your opinions greatly appreciated.

I used to keep my horse at Mote End Farm for many many happy years. I bought my horse from them as an 8 year old and he went on till he was 25. Loved the place and only moved because I bought my own place with land. It is even more fantastivc now with additional manages and changing rooms.

Have a look on my websiote- think Mote End Farm is listed. If so will have quite a lot of information in their listing and may have client comments on as well.

I was at LEC nearly 3 years ago when I first bought my big lad.

The lady who runs it [if she's still there] seems a bit scary but she's rock solid gold, as is her daughter who teaches there and BSJA's to a high level. Expert advice is freely given and on hand.

In the deep winter months turnout is v restricted [as you might expect for London] but riding facilities are great and the surfaces don't freeze so you can still work your horse during this time.

Prices are EXTREMELY reasonable for London if you can't make it up or fancy a weekend off and the grooms/working pupils are very, very nice, animal lovers in it for genuine reasons.

I only left after a horrendous accident which left me on crutches and my horse sent on schooling livery. BUT during and after said accident LEC staff were totally brilliant and professional and knew exactly what to do.

I was at LEC a few years ago - it did not suit my pony but he is very quirky so not the fault of the yard, but the people were really nice and the facilities were good. It can get busy at the weekends as it is a riding school so you might have trouble getting to use the schools in peak times.

Hacking is not great though.

I liveried there years ago. Hacking is rather dreadful, facilities are rather amazing with enormous indoor and outdoor arenas and lovely showjumps. You have to defer to the school for facilities though. You have to do everything the BHS way because it's a riding school. The family that owns it are really nice. I can't say anything about the staff because they will be completely different to when I was there. For London turnout is quite reasonable and if you are happy for your horse to go out with the school ponies they do make a big effort to keep the school ponies out for as much of the year as possible.

When my friend asked there for livery she was told they don't do it and to try next door at Frith Manor. Back when I was there this would have been unthinkable - lots of competition but now apparently things are very friendly and LEC does the riding school type stuff and Frith does the livery yard type stuff so it could be worth looking them up too.

I have heard less good things about Mote Farm but this is about third hand gossip so you just need to check them out for yourself and pay far more weight to the people who have had actual experiences there. What I have heard is that they are very keen to stick on the extra fees and facilities are going downhill now they are in the LEZ (eg grazing the XC course).

Thanks guys. If anyone knows of anyone still on livery at these places i would greatly appreciate them getting in touch! Also if anyone knows any other yards with DIY that are commutable from London maybe that aren't listed on all websites!? Thanks!!

Elle -Dani Farm??? I'm not sure if she still does DIY but I had a great time there 2 years ago, brill facilities...ended up buying a horse off her too. Love him to bits!!!! Very sounds lady....

Frith Manor is near Mill Hill East tube does DIY or part livery and has an indoor and two outdoors, daytime turnout in winter and 24 hour turnout in summer. Some off road hacking but generally hacking isn't great.

Bury Farm near Edgware - you would need a car I think but easy still if you are working in central London. It has an indoor school and an outdoor, great turnout and similar hacking. They also have a feed store.

Strangeways in Borehamwood - riding school type setup - loads of schools, jumps, some shows and things, very busy yard if you like that type of thing. Great hacking but you have to go on roads to get to it.

Galley Lane in Barnet - DIY only, one outdoor school, good hacking but you need roadwork, good summer turnout.

Crossoaks in Borehamwood/Radlett - not sure if they do DIY but they might be worth a try. Lots of little yards in that general area that would be worth a drive around actually.

Vale Farm in Barnet - Don't.

Trent Park in Enfield - riding school in Enfield, I think they only do working livery so your horse would have to go on the school, wouldn't be my cup of tea.

There are a lot of DIYs in Enfield that would probably be commutable though.

As you say - 3rd hand gossip.... don't think the facilities have gone down hill with the amount of money spent recently on re surfacing the entire yard and re roofing a stable block....
