Sorry to say it (as much as I do love and adore my old girl) she really does look a moth eaten old bat at the moment! I'm wondering if others oldies are looking any better?

She always grows a shetland pony style coat in winter and wasn't clipped as she's retired. (Actually she looked rather cute in the winter, when it was cold she fluffed up like a big cuddly teddy bear). Anyway back to the point, she is losing her winter coat but some bits don't seem to be shifting yet. She looks awful! (Alhough looks well enough and was doing some impressive hand stands out in the field so don't think she is ill or anything)

How near to getting full summer coats are your oldies?

My mare is 18 and lives out with a bedded down barn and double rugged when really cold (she's unclipped).
These last few days now she's naked, has started to resemble a horse again after being a bearded mountain goat for the last few months! :D

Mine has a normal neck and a wooly bum, she has always come in in funny patches, when she was clipped I once thought I had missed a patch and was ready to get the clippers out again until i realised it was her summer coat coming through!

OP - is your oldie out naked? A week os sun, scratching and rolling has done wonders for the oldies at work! Well one of them is still in full winter mood... but she is odd.

One of mine is looking awful. The one I cant catch! TBF he hates being brushed so when can get near him I just pull what I can out and it does look a mess. But I make sure there are no mirrors around so he cant see what he looks like. He thinks he is handsome and that is what counts.

The other is just a hairy monster ready to be clipped. I am just holding off for a bit as the nights are cold and I need at least three pairs of clipper blades and a week to clip as the clippers overheat! :D The joys of having oldies!

Mine looks a bit like that and he isn't even old!

He wasn't clipped this year because he was on boxrest and then the last week when he has been moulting loads I have been really busy with exam preparation at college. Not to mention a bizarre rash got...oh dear. He will get some well deserved TLC tomorrow though

Our oldie looks like a badly stuffed cushion at the moment :) She rubbed a load of winter coat out a couple of months ago and so has short patches and long patches, looks awful, but is in good nick under the wierd wool :)
