Mum and Peter came up to see us this afternoon as Aunty Ro and the irishman have gone away now that boxing day has finished, but they didn't arrive until nearly time to come in, so I wasn't expecting mum to take us for a ride. Tom said they wouldn't bother either.

Next thing I know mum has my rug off and my bridle on. :( then she put the numnah over my back, and did it up with Tom's girth (which nearly went twice round me  - must ask him how he got so round). Then, shock of all shocks, she got on, just there, with no saddle or stirrups or anything!! we did circles in the field and then peter got on instead of mum and he let me gallop up the long side of the big field :D:D He's so much more fun than Mum is.

Now, I've been here 6 years and this has never happened before... I can only assume that the pair of them have gone utterly stark raving bonkers!

It was quite nice though, not to have the saddle on though, I could relax a bit and didn't feel it quite so necessary to resist the contact. mum said that I looked much more settled when Peter was riding me than I usually do. I wonder whether I'll be allowed to go hunting with just a numnah thing on instead of a saddle? Mum says now the snow has gone we can go hunting tomorrow! Woooo!!!

Happy New Year to all my Diary Readers! Attached below is a picture of me and Tom with Aunty Ro, taken the day before Boxing Day.

Am I being thick, does your horse really have those white markings around his eyes and nose? At first glance I thought you had been playing with photoshop :o What unique markings!

not being thick at all Naturally... he's got vitiligo, they started appearing about 4 years ago now, and change a little everytime his coat changes. :) I hardly notice them now (until they change!)

I can't believe that's the first time I've ridden him bareback (ok, so I cheated and used a pad!) in all the time I've had him! Not sure tho that he would have let me when I got him, and wasn't convinced that he wouldn't just buck until we'd been on about 10 minutes! Was dead pleased with OH though, he's never ridden bareback ever, and was quite happy to just get on and gallop about, and even asked if he could try jumping bareback when the ground's drier! :D

Ok.. whats vitiligo? :o

vitiligo is an auto-immune condition, which means that something goes wrong with his system and causes him to become immune to his own skin pigments. for some reason it seems to mostly affect sensitive tissues, like his eyes, nose, sheath and under his tail.

trendybraincell - I love it too... he'd be soo difficult to nick, much more effective than chipping or freeze-marking! :D

LOL great report and gorgeous horses :D

my hubby has vitiligo and has it a little around his eyes (which he is very concious of) under his arms, forearms and erm groin!!! but his does colour in a little when he has a tan, its very strange. Good branding though ;)
