Hi I was wondering if you can use a motorbike jacket as a general riding jacket? its gortex not leather but top range armour . . been looking at jackets - mountain horse - and they are expencive. I use my jacket on bike loads of room to move in it . . oh and its bright yellow and black?? is there a big difference?

Is it the Frank Thomas one?
Have been looking at hubbies and thinking it would be good for hacking but his wasn't cheap :(

I used to hack in my bike jacket which had built in elbow, shoulder and back protection, it was also hi vis black and yellow but I (stupidly) sold it with the bike. It was a bit too hot for summer riding but otherwise a good idea. Aldi were doing one with built in armour for about £40 the other week, the Mountain Horse equivalent is nearer £200!

my leathers are frank thomas, but I bought the aldi or lidl ones last week - £40, they are great x thank you, you have made my mind up - yes, especially in winter and prob get a protector for summer?

I have a black and hi viz motorbike textile jacket with armour in shoulders and elbows that I use for hacking. It's great and was about £50. Much cheaper than the mountain horse jacket as stated above.

I have used my motorbike jacket to ride in a few times. It's an Ixon Xeres jacket, has elbow and forearm protection, shoulder armour and a back protector. On the plus side it has 4 ventilation zips as well to stop me getting sweaty.
