Hi everyone. We are thinking about buying a motorised wheelbarrow as we (like everyone else) are really struggling with poo-picking fields in all this mud. We've got one on hire for a week, and so far are finding it very useful as it seems to go through 4-5 ins of mud. We're just wondering if anyone has any experience with these before we go to the expense of buying one

I've never used one but I know they had one at the place I used to work but they hated it as it was rubbish and couldn't carry much or get up the midden ramp.

If you've got one on trial that is coping with mud then that sounds pretty good!! Maybe a different make, I'd say if you think its good after your weeks trial then buy one!

I haven't used one but have TWO quads! (First one broke down and 2nd was a replacement, then I repaired the first!).

I really don't think I could do without a quad. Attach a trailer and it will do all your wheel barrow will do a lot faster. If you decide to sell it, it will have a good resale value (especially around lambing time) but how many will want a barrow? I use it to carry out hay, drag fencing posts or timber from the wood, tow the Predator, or simply go down through the fields to repair a fence. I carry most tools in a fish box on the back. But if I've forgotten anything, it is quick to go back to the yard to get what I need.

You might want to look at the price of s/h quads before you buy the barrow. The best make of quad, by far, is Honda.

Wow! I've never heard of such things...
Wonder if they do remote control wheelbarrows to be programmed to go too and from the muck heap..... :p

My experience is don't bother, I'm afraid. The two I've seen in use were expensive, deafening, not that large, not that easy to use, and struggled with bad going, tighter turns, hills etc. The noise and vibration alone put me off! And, as above, they aren't that useful compared to a small quad and trailer.

My OH made me a motorised wheelbarrow. He tested it out on a friend first......it took off, took the side off a mercedes motor car, carted tester across an A road and came to rest in a ditch.
I am happy with a quad and agrifab trailer!
Merecedes owner not so happy.
Nor is the original tester.

I used one nearly 40 years ago!! Yes, honest. It hadf a large surface area and was around 18" deep. The only problem was that everything had to be forked out of it, but the bonus was three beds on one barrow! Loved it.

I know I shouldn't but I am creasing up at this!!

Oh, and on a quad note - quadzilla quad bikes are horrendously bad, don't bother with one unless you just want to look at it!

Ive got one ! Ive had it 4 years now. Its a Sherpa barrow powered with a large battery.
I like it, does save your back and arms and you can get about 2 ordinary wheelbarrow loads in. If you have a very sloping field though you have to be careful. Got mine through Mowermagic website. It was about £450. The barrow body tips forward so you dont have to fork muck out.
