Mouldy Hay

I get some haylage bales that are a bit mouldy, if its just white mould then i chuck it in the field for them during the day to eat what they want from it. Natives dont have a problem digesting it and either do other horses if you slowly build it up by feeding a little at a time. Ive never had a horse or pony colic from it but if its green or black mould then chuck it.

I had the same as Archina when I had haylage, a bit of mould didn't seem to do any harm (same just white mould towards end of the bale). The horses didn't seem to mind and never had any problems. Depends how mouldy it is!

i do the same! its never my made my high maintanence, accident prone tb x arab ill either!

Is the white stuff you describe on your bales not just yeast which in itself isnt likely to cause harm ? Thats different from true mould on haylage with a bluish green tinge to it which is very likely to cause harm
Personally i wouldnt risk feeding mouldy feedstuff in any form, so id chuck the hay out

I'd chuck mouldy hay and soak dusty hay.

If the haylage smells really bad, either eggy or like nail varnish, I'd dump that too.
