I'm always one to keep on top of cleaning my tack -infact... I love it.
I had a really bad fall in work which resulted in me being out for the past 12 weeks with more to come but I popped over to work the other day and the tack is crawling in mould.

What's the best way to treat the tack now, I want to clean it but it won't be used for another few weeks Atleast? Product names ect please? Thanks in advance :-)

Dismantle all tack, wipe the mold off with a damp cloth (then chuck this cloth or give it a v v good clean), wipe with a clean cloth soaked in white vinegar, allow to dry then dose liberally with effax lederbalm or similar to replace the oils the vinegar stripped out.

It also seems to help if clean tack is put to bed, eg fleece saddle cover with clean towel underneath to wrap over long girth straps

Its just the time of year and moisture in the atmosphere and a cold tackroom. Nothing you cn do really other than heat your tackroom or bring tack home. No amount of cleaning will stop it from becoming mouldy. Its really nothing to worry about - just clean it off in the usual way
