Just a quick one before bed.
Rushed around when we got there to walk the course, little sister aka trainer insisted on coming which means it took longer, rushed about hopped on for dressage, warmed up ok but didn't want to take the contact forward, nevermind did what we could and went in.
All going well until our first medium canter where I totally lost his shoulder and we jumped on the boards!!! Rein back was below average for a 5 and I forgot to halt for 3-5 seconds as I wanted it over and done with! The rest was all ok but plenty to work on
Onto SJ, I hadn't walked the course I felt sick, watched people ride distances on various variations, decided on 5 down one which was riding a long 4 or short 5, all going well, popped into the distance nicely for 5, didn't get there of 5 as I checked too much and we stopped a stride away, nothing dirty, not his fault at all. SACK THE JOCKEY!!! So 9 pens from the showjumping (5 time) but he finished confidently so that was ok
Onto XC, the fun bit!! I thought it was trickier than Llanymynech being only our 2nd Novice, 4a,b used the ground undulation to a skinny, step up to a skinny, steps down, logs on top of hills which quickly disappeared and hanging log to a brush which could be ridden on a forward 2 or 3 but nothing too scary.
Set off with the intention of trying to make the time but lots were struggling, flew all the way, didn't look at anything (other than the gap in the fence to go through!!!) until the hanging log to brush.
He was keen, too keen and we got a forward one to the log, went for 2 and I'm not quite sure what happened but we got to the otherside albeit not very prettily
Onto the log on top of the hill jumped that nicely, down the hill pecked at the bottom, lost my knitting, he was very good to the water as I didn't have much contact and he stayed straight and helped me, flew the rest included the rail, ditch left handed to the corner and we were inside the time by 8 seconds
So overall positives and negatives in all phases:
Dressage - more work on mediums and rein back as well as him not dropping behind the contact when we get to the arena.
Showjumping - weaker bit needed so I can't hook as much, need to flow more!
XC - Slightly different brakes needed, feel like I have to tug abit too much atm. He's in a waterford nelson gag which he is leaning on, any suggestions???
But another clear XC at our 2nd Novice over a course which caused enough problems so after our bad SJ this moved us up to 8th, so another top 10.
