Is there any difference in the boots themselves? Looking at the sovereign boot & the youth sizes look better suited to my short calves than the adult ones šŸ˜³ (and the price is better too!) - does the youth version miss anything the adult one has, anyone know?

I've got the Mountain Horse Sovereigns in the youth version, as the adult ones would definitely have been too long (the youth ones are only just short enough!). I can't really say whether they miss anything, but they are a lovely pair of smart boots that are comfortable and wearing well.

@Meredith i think just had a thread about boots and ended up buying mountain horse
I bought the youth version last week. I needed size 6 wide with the foot liner removed.
As far as I can see there is no difference between youth and adult.
I think the sizing is very close and it is better to try them if you can. I was surprised as I expected to need the short version but the youths, which is supposedly taller, fitted fine.
I went to Treehouse. It is the closest stockist to me and they had all the sizes. You have to book to go as theyā€™re not always there.

You did see the adult short version size guide as well as ā€˜normalā€™ adults and youths?

Update - I bought the youth version in the 38 size (so goes up to 39 if you remove the insole) as Iā€™m a 5.5 I thought this gave some wiggle room. The measurements were closest for me on the regular/wide boot and the Ā£100 odd lower price tag was just a bonus šŸ™ˆ

They are a little tight on first wear but my god are they comfy, soft and sturdy in the foot. Boots have come on a LOT in 15 years šŸ˜‚ Iā€™ve tried them with the insole in and theyā€™re a little tight on one foot but not the other so Iā€™ll give them some wear in time & if still a little tight I can just take the insole out - great!

Conclusion if anyone is as I was, in 2 minds then my first impression of the mountain horse youth sovereign is really good & if we get on well Iā€™ll be buying a second pair ā€œfor bestā€.

Glad you are happy with the boots. Mine are fine too. No sore toes, heels or backs of knees and plenty of wiggle room with the liners removed.

Yes I might have to remove the liners and get a thin fluffy insole or something to replace - they feel a bit more rustic without the liner šŸ™ˆ

My last pair were mountain horse but never fitter properly (youā€™ll grow into them I was told! I never did) & were at least 15 years old by the time I replaced them (so at least they last long!) but these are a different league

I gave up on Ariat short boots as they just fell apart and bought short Mountain Horse (the waterproof model). I love them, and cheaper than Ariat. I'll be buying the country boot this winter to replace my ariat Braemer which strangley have lasted 6 years. Just about still waterproof but the lining is coming apart and they are hard to get on - and harder to get off!

They do give a little, so you may be okay as they are. I started off without the extra layer (keeping the top insole only), but they did loosen off, so Iā€™ve now added a very thin gel insole. I think mine are on their third summer now, although they usually only get worn once a week, and they hardly look worn.

Iā€™ve been wearing them around the house to slacken off šŸ™ˆ and it seems to have worked so Iā€™ll keep the insoles in. Glad theyā€™re still going strong for you!
