Hi everyone!

Want to play some mounted games at the yard. Am very excited as I haven't done this for a long while...

What games can you suggest? We are three ponies, three riders and whatever equipment we can find on the yard or at home.

Let me know - and I'll try and take some pics.

Bending - use road cones or electric fence posts (some people poo-pooed this when I mentioned this before, but they are designed to snap when a horse runs into them, as are normal bending poles, so I don't see any danger personally).
Plastic mugs on top of the poles - move the from pillar to pillar for the mug race.
Put a tennis ball on one of the cones - pick up ball and place it in a bucket at the end of the bending lane.
We got flags from Robinsons pretty cheaply for flag races. Also stepping stones for that race - sawn off pieces of log may work for stepping stones if they are wide enough to not tip over, but don't let them get wet or they will become slippery.. Milk crates could work too.
Walk, trot and lead race - walk to one end, trot back down, then jump off and lead horse while you run to the other end (you could do canter too..)

Have fun!

Walk, trot, canter, walk is usually a bit of a challenge...! We use road cones at home and put broom handles inside them to be the right height for bending posts. The tennis ball and cone race could be livened up by picking the ball off one cone and having to put it on another one. Roll some old socks into balls, put them on the ground at the far end, gallop up, dismount, pick up sock, vault or clamber on, place sock in bucket on the way back to the line. Use flag sticks to collect litter...cut off old fashioned round washing up bottles, and carry them on sticks to a dustbin or bucket to place in half way down the arena...Get some rubber dog rings, place them on a table at the far end, collect one at a time and drop over a cone on the way down. Have fun!

I'm not sure I remember how to vault on

We'll also do bucket elimination, chase me charlie and egg & spoon race. Oooh and I wonder if we can find some sacks for a sack race...

Pony musical chairs - music plays and there is one less sack on the ground than riders, music stops and they have to canter or trot as quick as they can onto the sack. One left without the sack goes out, you then remove one more sack and so on until the last person is left - the winner! I love this game so much!
