mounting blocks - what do you use?

alainax are those three step mounting blocks sturdy on an arena surface? I couldn't tell from the website if they would be wobbly on sand.

Yes very sturdy - really strong and tough too. We have a nice springy rubbery arena, which is quite deep in the corner where I mount. My boy loves to spin round for a hug almost knocking my flying off the top of it when i try to get on - but it never budges. Its really been one of my better purchases lol - couldnt live without it now :o

The only downside id say is they are rather heavy. Can move around the same area no problem, but to try to take it from one end of an arena out to the yard for example would take a bit of effort :p
 
I have a random stool I found on my estate (proper council like) but as I have to get on outside the gate I have to leave it there while I hack and hope no one steals it/falls over it/objects to its weathered appearance, so what I would really like is a log or stump that can blend into the landscape!
 
Another IKEA BEKVÄM stool fan! They are great value (I think I paid £11 for mine). Plus they are a great height - you can easily get on a 16.1+ horse from them. I wrote my name on mine so that it doesnt disappear, and when at shows/camp etc I leave it behind the trailer and there is an endless stream of people asking to use it!
 
OH made me a made to measure one with odds and sods of wood, including bits of decking! It was so I could step into the stirrup and not pull my Achilles persistently. My YO wet himself laughing at the size: the horse was 17.2. It was then adapted to fit my 15hh short a*** cob! When cob creature (who I was assured was properly backed but was in fact as green as grass!) refused to stand at the block, I used a skanky plastic chair that was light and easy to move.

Most people at the yard just use the sloped up wall, seems a great height!

We have a pile of breeze blocks formed into steps and painted white. V posh! At rides I use the trailer ramp or my crew gives me a leg up. Out on a ride - any convenient ditch/lump/stone. Though Stink is only 14.2 so tend to mount from the ground if needed.
 
I have also got one of them ikea wooden stools, perfect height for me, swapped with my dads one though what he uses in his garage, his one is a few years old now but it is a bit more robust.
Got mine off amazon as the nearest ikea around here is about 2 1/2 hours away!
 
We have a big log on its end.
At the old place we had a big rock! Feels odd when I go somewhere 'posh' and get to use a real block...in fact the height of them always seems awkward. Used the gate for months before we got our log but it was too slippery if your boots were muddy.
Happy with the log!
 
We have a purpose built one, out of breeze blocks, steps up and big enough to get on a 17hh. When sister began riding again after breaking her ankle she trained the mare to stand there for her to get off too. The current mare does this too. We also have a portable two step from robinsons, useful for if the Current Appy does not want to stand too near the smell of petrol from the tractor.
 
I have a fairly solid plastic tub, which I use at the paddock. In the front of my float lives a little step stool, which I found at the local hardware store.

I have friends who have horses trained to stand next to utes and wheel hubs on floats. And when you get caught short out riding, it's handy to have a horse that will stand in any available hole or ditch or next to banks, logs etc etc. :D
 
We have those steps that they have at boat shows. Nice, sturdy and they make it easy to get on.
At my instructor's placer we use milk crates.

In the past I have used the mud guard of my float, a limestone block, a roll of conveyer belt rubber, a post & rail fence and also the side of a hill as a mounting block... You are limited by your imagination :)
