Mouth Bleeding

Hello All, I hope that this thread/post is in the correct place, as I'm new here. I took my mare hunting three weeks ago in a straight bar pelham and it felt as though she got her tongue over the bitand the next thing the foam in her mouth was red as somewhere was bleeding. Since then she has been ridden every day in her loose ring, korsteel oval link bit, and there has been no blood. Then today I took her to the beach in the same korsteel bit, and there was blood again. She does get very excited away from home, but never strong that you have to apply much down the rein. Her main problem is on the ground where she is a complete lunatic, but once on, she calms right down. How can I stop this bleeding? Why is it happening? vet was out on Wednesday and checked her mouth and all was fine.

Have you checked thoroughly and then checked again whether there's any sharp bits anywhere at all on either of the bits or bit rings. Wouldn't have to be huge, the tiniest scratch could make her mouth bleed if you take a strong hold on the reins, especially if you saw the bit in her mouth. I'd start with the most obvious and work up from there. If she's a tit on the ground, how do you control her? With what? How strongly? Are you 100% certain the blood is coming from her mouth and not her lips or nose? Sherlock Holmes hat on!

If there are no cuts on the corner of her mouth it is more likely that she is biting her tongue. Some horse can give a tiny nick on their tongue and there is loads of bloood so looks way worse than it actually is
